2.  LAPD REPORT – NEW TYPE OF BURGLARY

Thanks to Bel-Air Association for this information.

According a contact at the LAPD, suspects are now using a device called a “Jammer.” This device is approximately the size of an old large cell phone with multiple antennas. It blocks reception between cell towers and mobile phones, and can even interfere with WiFi.

The Jammer was originally created for military and law enforcement use to combat threats like cell phone-triggered explosives and hostage situations.  When used for home burglaries, the Jammer works by preventing your wireless alarm or camera system from transmitting.

Be on the lookout for a group of men carrying backpacks. Please be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the LAPD.

3.  EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS TOWN HALL

From State Senator Ben Allen:

Dear Friend,
I’m reaching out to invite you to an important town hall about emergency preparedness in our region.

This winter’s barrage of powerful storms served as a stark reminder that natural disasters are not a question of “if” in California, but rather a question of “when.” Compounding our state’s ever-present threat of earthquakes, the climate crisis has increased the frequency and severity of wildfires, floods, and mudslides. Given these dangers, we have a responsibility to prepare ourselves, our loved ones, and our homes.

That’s why I’ll be hosting a virtual town hall on Wednesday, May 3, at 4:00 p.m. in partnership with California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara. We’ll discuss topics such as evacuation readiness, property insurance, and home hardening and retrofitting with experts from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, California Department of Forestry and Fire Prevention, and California Earthquake Authority.

You can register to attend the webinar and submit questions for the experts HERE.

Ben Allen
Senator, 24th District
