1. NEW COVID TESTING & NOTIFICATION PROGRAMS
COVID-19 AT-HOME TESTING
LA County launched a new COVID-19 home test collection program earlier this week, which allows certain County residents to do free testing from the comfort of their own homes.
The home test collection program will run from December 1, 2020 through January 15, 2021. It aims to help address the current surge in demand for testing and reduce the spread of COVID-19 during the holiday season when people may risk exposure.
Individuals can have testing kits mailed to their home if they:
- Have COVID-19 symptoms; or
- Were recently in close contact with someone who has COVID-19 or is suspected of having it; or
- Are a senior or person with disabilities who feel they were exposed to COVID-19, but are unable to go to a testing site.
For information on how to register, individuals should go to the county COVID-19 testing website. If they qualify, Fulgent Genetics will ship a collection kit to their home within two days.

CA NOTIFY – COVID NOTIFICATION SYSTEM
In this time of alarming rises in cases and hospitalizations, it is more important than ever that all Californians do their part to stop the surge. Californians can now opt-in to CA Notify to receive COVID-19 notifications informing them if they have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for the virus.

CA notify will alert users if they have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. With that information, they can make responsible decisions around quarantine and testing, which is essential for stopping the surge.
The technology is available through the Google Play store on Android devices or through iOS settings on Apple devices. For more information about CA Notify, visit canotify.ca.gov.
2. LAPD CRIME REPORT
TEENS STEALING CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
A homeowner living near Dalehurst and Comstock reported that around 1:00 AM on December 3rd, three teenage boys stole all of their outdoor tree lights. The boys appeared to be about 16-19 and were driving their own car. It may have been high school or local college students. Ring Video of the incident can be seen here:

The homeowner reported the theft to SSA but does not want to involve the police. She really just wants an apology and for the lights to be returned. If you recognize any of the teens or have any other information, please contact HWPOA at hwpoa@aol.com.

3. COVID UPDATES – MAIL DELIVERY & LOCAL PARKS
Report from Congressman Ted Lieu’s office:
MAIL DELIVERY – COVID has hit the United States Postal Service carriers. There is a possibility that mail could be delivered every other day until the COVID surge has weakened. Westwood has not been put on the list of communities that have reduced mail service at this point. There have been many complaints about mail arriving late and, in some cases, days have been skipped. Please report any problems you are experiencing to hwpoa@aol.com
WESTWOOD RECREATION CENTER – Councilmember Paul Koretz’s office reported that the trailers and the shelter at Westwood Rec. Center have been dismantled and are in the process of being cleaned up. You no doubt have noticed many encampments at the park and on Veteran Ave. At this time, due to the moratorium, tents cannot be removed by the city nor can they be taken down in order to clean the area.
HOLMBY PARK – Holmby Park has different problems. This park is heavily used during the day and parking is scarce. Fitness classes and workouts fill the park and the limbs of the trees are being used by trainers using ropes for their clients to hang from. Signs have been posted to no avail. We are going to have to be patient until COVID cases have greatly diminished and gyms begin to reopen.

4. DMV UPDATES
SENIOR DRIVER’S LICENSE RENEWALS
The California Department of Motor Vehicles is now offering Californians who are 70 and older the option to renew their noncommercial driver’s license online. Licenses that expire beginning March 1, 2020, and throughout the COVID-19 emergency are eligible, including REAL ID renewals. A mail-in option will be available in the coming weeks. Most drivers 69 and younger can also renew at dmv.ca.gov – even if their renewal notice states they must come to an office.
BEHIND-THE-WHEEL DRIVING TESTS
The California DMV is temporarily suspending behind-the-wheel driving tests for at least two weeks beginning December 14. The DMV is taking this step for the health and safety of customers and employees during the current statewide surge in COVID-19 cases. Customers with scheduled appointments in the next two weeks will be notified their tests are canceled. The DMV will automatically reschedule the tests at a later date.
REAL ID
Californians who do not have an urgent need to go to a DMV field office should delay their visit, including those interested in applying for a REAL ID. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has announced that the REAL ID enforcement date is October 1, 2021, and customers who want a REAL ID will have an opportunity to apply at a later date.

L.A. County just hit an important milestone this week – 5 million meals served to vulnerable residents since the pandemic started. If you want to help feed your neighbor, please donate or volunteer at our #HereForTheHoidays campaign.
LAPD HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE
The West LA Police Station is accepting toys for their Holiday Toy Drive. Donors are invited to drop off a new and unwrapped toy by scheduling a drop off time at the station (1645 Corinth Ave.) on Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s from 3 pm to 7 pm using the email 37430@lapd.online.
SPARK OF LOVE TOY DRIVE
The Spark of Love Toy Drive is the largest community toy drive in the nation. Due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, this year’s Spark of Love Toy Drive is transitioning to a virtual platform and accepting donations through an online partnership with MyRegistry.com. As a result, supporting the Spark of Love Toy Drive has never been quicker, easier, or safer!
If you would like to drop-off new, unwrapped toys or sports equipment at your local fire station, you must make an appointment with them to ensure toy security.

HEATHER TAYLOR HOME – Masks For All initiative
In March, we launched our Masks For All initiative. For every purchase of a HTH Face Mask 10 Pack, we are donating 10 masks to those in need.
Our masks are one-size-fits-most and made using our textile remnants in the style approved and needed by the Deaconess Health System. With your support, we have sold over 85,000 masks and are on course to donate 85,000 more to those who need them most.
