Happy Thanksgiving from HWPOA

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful,
a time to remember
and to embrace those who enrich our lives.

This Thanksgiving, the Board of Directors of HWPOA would like you to know how thankful we are to have your support and continued membership. We’re grateful for the continued trust you place in us.

Our association has been there for our residents since 1962, working with city agencies, attending hearings as your representative and protecting our beautiful community.  We are lucky to live in a neighborhood that is next to UCLA, near the freeway, Century City, Beverly Hills, and not far from Santa Monica and the beach.  Let’s pause and give thanks for the exceptionally good life that we have enjoyed!  Your membership is important to us and to the work we do to keep Holmby Westwood the best it can be.  Thank you!

We hope you and your family have a safe and happy Thanksgiving and wish you all the best throughout the holiday season!

Sincerely,
Your HWPOA Board of Directors

1.  SECURITY TIPS

At this month’s HWPOA Board meeting, we invited guest speaker, Brian Dryer to discuss security issues.  Brian is President and Senior Partner of Strategic Sales and Growth for Industry Security Services, Inc.  He provided the following tips and suggestions for home security.  The tips cover a variety of safety measures, including:

  • Fencing
  • Lighting and cameras
  • Landscaping and vegetation
  • Security – Neighbors, dogs and private security

Security Tips & Suggestions

We thank Brian for attending our meeting and for providing such helpful information.

2.  DO YOU HAVE A PERMIT FOR YOUR ALARM?

Just a reminder that the City of Los Angeles requires an alarm permit to operate a security system. In L.A., it is a misdemeanor to operate an alarm system without a permit.

  • Initial Permit: $43
  • Annual Renewal: $26

Once you get a permit, provide your alarm company with your permit number and updated emergency contact information.

Post a copy of your permit number on the premises, at or near the main entrance, so that the responding officer can identify your contact information.

Under the revised Alarm Ordinance, the City will no longer respond to alarms free of charge. In addition to recovering the $229 fee for service, escalating penalties will be imposed for multiple false alarms.

3.  WEST LAPD BLUE RIBBON TRUST FUND

Earlier this month, West LAPD Officer Darrell Cunningham was killed when a 20-year-old driver allegedly ran a red light while driving drunk at approximately 100 mph. More details can be found here.

From Sergeant Scott Alpert:
It has been quite a loss for our Division, the Department, and his family.  Darrell was the model of what LAPD looks for in an officer.  He was an extremely hard-working officer, the constant professional, and yet maintained humility to the highest degree.  He was also a fantastic father, and unfortunately his kids and fiancée do not have him anymore.  His life was cut way too short.

Officer Cunningham leaves behind two young children and a fiancée with limited financial resources. So LAPD has started a fundraising campaign to help Officer Cunningham’s family.
