1.  HOUSING ELEMENT UPDATE – SINGLE FAMILY ZONING

This just in……………

The Planning Dept. has just announced that after extensive community input, they decided to remove the Affordable Housing Overlays and Transit Community Expansion from the current Housing Element.

After thousands of letters from United Neighbors (HWPOA is a member), we have been notified that new maps will soon be available.  Vince Bertoni, Director of City Planning stated:  “at this time single-family zoned land is not being considered as eligible for the Affordable Housing Overlay incentives….”  Additionally, single-family zoned sited are not being considered in the expansion of the Transit Oriented Communities Affordable Housing Incentive Program.”

Your support matters!  Many thanks to our neighbors who notified our representatives that they opposed rezoning of single-family neighborhoods!

Sandy Brown
HWPOA President

2.  DAYLIGHT SAVINGS REMINDER

Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour before you go to bed Saturday night, November 4. Daylight savings ends this Sunday, November 5! It’s time to “fall back” – set your clocks back one hour and get an extra hour of sleep — at 2 am on Sunday!

It is also a good time to replace the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms as well as update your emergency supplies.

3.  UCLA BOTANICAL GARDEN NEWSLETTER

Dear Garden Friends,

Thank you for making Trails & Treats a smashing success! Because of your support, we’ll be able to produce even more exciting opportunities and programming for our community.

We’re continuing our learning series with an expert perspective from Studio Petrichor’s principal landscape architect Shawn Maestretti. Join us on November 18 to learn about how urban green spaces can be designed in harmony with the principles of natural ecosystems.

The construction team is trenching and laying pipes to create our stream-integrated irrigation system. We can’t wait for you to enjoy the stunning results of this project next spring.

We’ll see you in the Garden soon!
