2.  ACCESS YOUR VACCINATION RECORD ONLINE

As the pandemic lingers on, Californians will need to hang onto their vaccination cards to enter businesses and events for the foreseeable future. The state of California is offering a digital COVID-19 vaccination record as an alternative to a physical vaccination card.

Just enter a few details to get a link to a QR code and digital copy of your COVID-19 vaccination record. If you want to share your proof of vaccination, you can use either the electronic version you’ll get from the portal or the card you were given at time of vaccination.

To receive your digital vaccination card, click here:

3.  SEWERS & SIDEWALKS – REPAIR PROGRAMS

SEWER REPAIR REBATES – First-Come, First-Serve Rebates for Sewer Repairs Available from LASAN. If you pay sewer service charges to the City of Los Angeles, you may qualify for LASAN’s Sewer Lateral Rebate Program.

What’s a sewer lateral? It connects your home or business to the City’s mainline sewer system, which is usually under the street outside.

Many LA property owners are unaware that maintenance of their sewer lateral is their responsibility, so this program is an opportunity to receive support.  Funds are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, so don’t delay – check your eligibility now and learn more about these rebates at www.LACitySan.org/SLrebates

SIDEWALK REPAIRS – Improving Sidewalk Safety in CD5
In December of 2016, the City of Los Angeles launched Safe Sidewalks LA, a 30-year, $1.4 billion program to make sidewalks accessible to everyone. The City of Los Angeles is committed to repairing sidewalks and improving accessibility. However, this is a large undertaking that will take time, effort and resources. Click here to learn more about need and funding, prioritization of repairs, and submitting a request.

5.  REGISTER YOUR BICYCLE

Did you know? that if your bike is stolen and you haven’t registered it, then the thieves can register it in their name. In that case, it is very hard to prove that the bike was yours in the first place.

Bikeindex.org is a national databank that records bike information. It makes it harder for thieves to sell stolen bikes and makes recovery of a bike more realistic.

Register your bikes at: http://www.bikeindex.org

6.  CONSTRUCTION NOISE ON SUNDAYS

We have received comments from concerned neighbors regarding construction noise outside of the permitted construction hours. While homeowners may work on their own homes personally, hired construction workers may not make noise on Sundays.

Allowable Construction Hours:
— Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

BURGLARY (entry of structure w/intent to commit theft or a felony)
Incident #: 220804024
10700 BLOCK WEYBURN AV  |  12/29/2021 @ 8:00 AM
Rear sliding glass door smash. Jewelry taken.

IMPORTANT SECURITY INFORMATION
Holmby Westwood had 2 burglaries yesterday, both in the 10400 block of Lindbrook Dr. near Beverly Glen.  Both occurred at night.  In the past 48 hours, according to Capt. Tom, WLAPD, 16 burglaries have occurred, of which 5 were commercial and 11 residential.  Rear windows and doors were smashed.  As reported, a home on Lindbrook was trashed and at another, the owner heard a door open, went to look and saw a stranger.  The owner screamed and the stranger fled.  According to Capt. Tom, they were likely the same individuals.

Do not leave your doors and windows open.  The “knock knock” burglars have become more organized and work in the back of the house.  They are known to run away when confronted.  They will jump over gates which were at one time a deterrent.

PLEASE maintain the exterior of your home as having the appearance that it is occupied.  Keep lights on, put them on timers when necessary, and keep a car in the driveway.

You might also check online for “window security film.”

If any neighbor has info from their video that could be relevant to the Lindbrook burglaries, please forward it to Capt. Jonathan Tom, WLAPD (32993@lapd.online).

4.  HOLMBY WESTWOOD GREEN TEAM UPDATE

The Holmby Westwood Green Team cannot say enough about the importance of trees to our community.  We are not alone.  Cities around the country also recognize the many benefits trees offer to urban areas.

“What Technology Could Reduce Heat Deaths? TREES.”

In this time of heat waves around the world, scientists are saying “trees are stationary superheroes. They can lower urban temperatures 10 lifesaving degrees “

Further, trees can “reduce electricity demand for air conditioning, saving money and emissions, and avoid potentially catastrophic power failures during heat waves.”

In Des Moines, the current director of public works “hails trees as the only infrastructure that adds value over time.”

This article, which was  originally published  in The New York Times on July 3, 2021, and then reprinted on December 27 in “The Morning: Overlooked Stories” section of The New York Times,  highlights what environmental planners, urban foresters, and directors of public works around the country are saying about the enormous benefits trees bring to communities.

5.  METRO MICRO – NEW RIDE SERVICE IN WESTWOOD

Metro recently launched a new local shared-ride service call “Metro Micro.” It will provide on-demand shared rides to UCLA, Westwood, VA, the Expo Line and any other point within its service zone. The initial promotional fee is just $1 per ride.

Metro Micro is now available Mon.-Fri., 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., in the Westwood area. A map and further information is here: https://micro.metro.net/zone-map-ucla-westwood-va-medical-center/

6.  WESTWOOD LIBRARY UPDATES

Library Hours:
Monday-Saturday: Noon – 5:30 p.m.

Telephone Reference Hours:
10:00 a.m. – Noon
(310) 474-1739

The hours have changed because of a staffing shortage. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

There will be no evening programs during January and February, due to the temporary change in the library’s open hours. We hope that we will return to our normal hours soon, but we don’t know when that will happen. In the meantime, the following programs are canceled: Poetry Open Mic, Life Stories Open Mic, and Meditation.
