3.  U.S. OPEN – PARKING & ROAD DETOURS

Next week, the United States Golf Association (USGA) will be hosting the U.S. Open Golf Championship at The Los Angeles Country Club.  This event will bring thousands of visitors to our area the same weekend as UCLA graduation.

The USGA, in conjunction with the cities of Los Angeles and Beverly Hills, has unveiled a comprehensive parking and transportation plan for the week of the championship.  Please click the link below for the complete notice.

U.S. Open Parking & Transportation Info.

Road Detours and Traffic
24-hour road detours will take place in the immediate vicinity of The Los Angles Country Club beginning Sunday, June 11 at 5 a.m. and lasting through Monday, June 19.  From Monday, June 12 through Sunday, June 18, local residents and through traffic are encouraged to adjust travel around peak U.S. Open arrival and departure times (7-11 a.m. and 4-8 p.m.) in the vicinity of The Los Angeles Country Club. Shuttle and vehicular traffic is expected to be heavy along the primary routes in and around The Los Angeles Country Club during these times.

Street Access for Residents:
Due to the U.S. Open traffic plan, the only access point for residents along Birchwood, Devon, and Strathmore will be from Beverly Glen Blvd or Devon Ave. Unfortunately, they will not be able to access their homes via Comstock Ave. from June 11 -18.  Residents that live on Comstock Ave. between Wilshire Blvd. and Beverly Glen will be given hangtags by the USGA to access their residence with no issue. This will be the same procedure for residents along Club View Drive between Comstock Ave. and Beverly Glen Blvd.

Holmby Park Access
All residents will have walking access to Holmby Park.  However, although the park will be open all week, there is no available parking on either side of the streets bordering the park.

Contact USGA
Should a resident feel the need to contact someone, we have the 2023 U.S. Open email address that is monitored throughout the day by a team of individuals.

Email USGA:

5.  PANCAKE BREAKFAST IS BACK…..NEXT YEAR

The Adopt Fire Station #71 is happy to announce the Pancake Breakfast is in the planning stage and will return to Holmby Westwood in May, 2024.

This family event, enjoyed by young and old alike, was curtailed for 3 years due to COVID.  The Adopt Board recently met to begin planning at the station where the firefighters prepared a delicious breakfast. What was on the menu? Pancakes, of course!  Always delicious!

6.  CAP UCLA PERFORMING ARTS AT THE NIMOY THEATER

New Season. New Theater.
The UCLA Center for the Art of Performance’s 2023–24 season will bring 35 events — including music, dance, theater, literary arts and multidisciplinary collaborations — to the new UCLA Nimoy Theater, a landmark venue in Westwood Village that has been renovated and transformed into a 300-seat off-campus performing arts space.

Named for the late artist, actor, director and philanthropist Leonard Nimoy, the theater is a reimagining of the historic Crest Theatre, built in 1941 and acquired by UCLA in 2018. The venue, operated and managed by CAP UCLA, will offer audiences an intimate and engaging experience of live performance while providing artists from Los Angeles and around the world new opportunities to develop and showcase their work. The upcoming season features a broad spectrum of voices, viewpoints, ideas and creative expressions across a variety of performing arts mediums.

8.  RESIDENT ADS

UKRAINIAN FAMILY NEEDS ASSISTANCE
HWPOA members Jackie and Jeff Freedman, along with a group of others, have sponsored a Ukrainian refugee family of four to live in Los Angeles.  The family consists of the 38 year-old parents and two children ages 12 and 9.  The father and 12 year-old son are fluent in English.  The mother understands and speaks a good amount of English but  is taking a crash course to become fluent.  The daughter is improving her English week by week.

The parents had a food service business at a university in the Eastern part of Ukraine until the 2014 Russian invasion.  After the invasion, the family fled to the capital, where the father then worked as sales manager for a Ukrainian grain elevator manufacturer and the mother obtained a managerial position in a bank.  When the Russians invaded in 2022, the family hid in the apartment’s basement.  They recently fled Ukraine and are now living in safety in Valley Village and finishing all their governmental appointments and beginning to experience the city.

Needs:
1. The parents have equivalent of masters degrees in economics and business management.  The father is currently seeking employment in agricultural related and or media areas.  If anyone has contacts in these areas, a resume can be provided upon request.
2. Donated bikes for two adults and one teenager.
3. Donated car.

Any help in these areas is greatly appreciated.  The family is fabulous.
