2.  TREE TRIMMING CAUTION – BIRD NESTS

It’s Bird Nesting Season!  Please take precautions when considering trimming trees, hedges and other locations where birds might nest.

In Southern California, bird nesting season usually occurs in spring and can extend through the month of August.  Since birds did not evolve in a situation where nests are relocated, they are unable to recognize a nest as theirs if it is moved.

Unless a tree is presenting a safety issue, the best practice is to hold off on pruning and schedule tree maintenance. As birds do not just nest in trees, the same schedule should be applied to trimming large bushes and shrubs.

3.  PREVENT CREDIT & DEBIT CARD SKIMMING

Thanks to our neighbors in WHPOA for the following information:

In 2022 over $19 million of card benefits were stolen in Los Angeles County due to card skimming. A skimmer is a device that thieves place on ATMs or payment machines to steal information. Gas station machines are particularly vulnerable to theft.

The LA County Consumer & Business Affairs website has valuable information about how to identify a skimmer on a payment machine, protect your cards and what to do if your card is skimmed.  It is found online at https://dcba.lacounty.gov/newsroom/understanding-card-skimmers-and-how-to-protect-yourself/
