1.  SEEKING NEW HWPOA BOARD MEMBERS

Join the Board of Directors of
Holmby Westwood Property Owners Association

The HWPOA Board is seeking Holmby Westwood residents to volunteer to serve as a Director for 1 year. We ask only that you be a financially current member of the Association for the past 2 years and have an interest in maintaining and improving the quality of life we have all come to know and enjoy.  The election of the Board of Directors will take place at our Annual Meeting on May 9.

Serving on our Board of Directors is a great way to meet your neighbors!  It’s a commitment of only 2 hours per month. You will have an extremely worthwhile experience while giving back to our community.  HWPOA is a highly respected association throughout the city and, with your involvement, we hope that will continue indefinitely.  We can only keep our property values high with resident participation.

We usually meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 PM. Our meetings have been on Zoom in recent years (due to COVID) but we may transition back to in-person meetings, which will be held at Belmont Village (on Wilshire at Warner Ave.)

We encourage all Board members to join one of our committees, which include: Security, Green Team, Westwood Village, Traffic, Holmby Park, Architectural Supervising Committee, 4th of July event, Filming (in the neighborhood), Membership, LAPD liaison and more.

Please contact Dana Glenn, our Office Manager, and let her know that you want to join our Board. Send an email to hwpoa@aol.com or call (310) 470-1785 to contact Dana. The deadline for submissions is April 10. We look forward to hearing from you!!

3.  MAIL DELIVERY & MAIL BOX ISSUES

Thank you to Brentwood Homeowners Association for the following information.  Although the article discusses issues in Brentwood, HWPOA utilizes the same area post office so the concerns are relevant to our neighborhood.

We asked Congressman Brad Sherman to look into why our members can go days without receiving their mail.  After contacting the Postmaster for our area, Congressman Sherman’s representative reported the following:

“USPS has been having severe staffing issues since the beginning of the pandemic. It has been very hard for the post office to maintain a full staff. Though they are hiring on a daily basis, staff often does not remain with the post office longer than a few days-especially as of late. Due to the low number of workers, customers are going to experience that 3-5 day window where they will not receive mail, except for packages.”

While this is not a solution to the problem, it is an explanation.  If you have not received mail for more than two days,  you can also fill out a service request,  which goes straight to the supervisor’s email and is replied to within 72 hours.

Due to theft and vandalism over the years, Barrington post office has been forced to lock or remove the outdoor mailboxes. If you wish to mail letters or packages at the post office, you must use the depository just inside the glass doors in the PO box area.

6.  ADOPT OR FOSTER A PET – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

LA Animal Services Centers Full – LA Animal Services is urging adoptions of pets as the number of dogs coming into the centers is outpacing their ability to find them homes. With more than 1,300 dogs in the shelters, they are URGENTLY asking the community to adopt a pet. If you can’t adopt, please consider fostering. Give a dog or cat a ‘staycation’ for a weekend, a week, or a month to give pets a break from kennel life.
