1.  SEEKING NEW HWPOA BOARD MEMBERS

Join the Board of Directors of
Holmby Westwood Property Owners Association

The HWPOA Board is seeking Holmby Westwood residents to volunteer to serve as a Director for 1 year. We ask only that you be a financially current member of the Association for the past 2 years and have an interest in maintaining and improving the quality of life we have all come to know and enjoy.  The election of the Board of Directors will take place in May.

Serving on our Board of Directors is a way to safeguard one of the largest investments you will make in your lifetime. You will have an extremely worthwhile experience while giving back to our community.  HWPOA is a highly respected association throughout the city and, with your involvement, we hope that will continue indefinitely.

We usually meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 PM. Our meetings have been on Zoom in recent years (due to COVID) but we may transition back to in-person meetings, which will be held at Belmont Village (on Wilshire at Warner Ave.).

We encourage all Board members to join one of our committees, which include: Security, Green Team, Westwood Village, Traffic, Holmby Park, Architectural Supervising Committee, 4th of July event, Filming (in the neighborhood), Membership, LAPD liaison and more.

Please contact Dana Glenn, our Office Manager, and let her know that you want to join our Board. Send an email to hwpoa@aol.com or call (310) 470-1785 to contact Dana. The deadline for submissions is April 10. We look forward to hearing from you!!

2.  FOURTH OF JULY PARADE – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Fourth of July Volunteers Needed!
Without volunteers, HWPOA cannot sponsor our annual July 4th Parade and Picnic. We all look forward to this very special community event but it cannot happen without volunteers to help pull it together. HWPOA Board member, Caron Schwartz will chair the big celebration but she needs help!

We need volunteers to assist with fundraising, decorations, food, city permits, coordination with LAPD and LAFD, arts & crafts and more!

Please contact Dana at hwpoa@aol.com or call our office at 310- 470-1785 if you would like to join the planning committee. We must hear from you this coming week in order to move forward. Greatly appreciated!

3.  L.A. MARATHON – STREET CLOSURES THIS SUNDAY

The Los Angeles Marathon will be held this Sunday, March 19. There will be numerous road closures across the city throughout the day.  Please plan ahead for an alternate travel route to avoid street closures.

5.  HOLMBY PARK REMINDERS

There have been many requests for permits to celebrate birthdays and special occasions at Holmby Park. Please remember that the park houses a “Pitch and Putt” mini golf course. There are reports that guests are spilling on to the golf course which then prohibits golfers from playing. Please keep your guests in the designated areas.

Also, the park staff understands that children like to color the sidewalks with chalk. This is very difficult to remove and takes hours of staff time. Please refrain from bringing chalk to the park.

One last important reminder: All dogs must be ON LEASH at the park for everyone’s safety!

Thank you!

6.  MEETINGS WITH COUNCILWOMAN YAROSLAVSKY

The Westside Regional Alliance of Councils, a coalition of 14 neighborhood and community councils, met with Councilmember Katy Yaroslavsky and her staff last week to discuss the major issues on the westside as well as throughout the city.  Subjects included development, homelessness, Holmby Park, Westwood Village, and transportation.  Katy is very open to suggestions, inclusiveness, transparency, and consensus.

The following week, Ellen Turner, HWPOA Board member, represented HWPOA at a meeting with CM Yaroslavsky and 17 homeowner organizations on the westside.  Each association had 3 minutes to tell Katy a little bit about their association and discuss their most pressing issues.  Her staff was introduced to the community leaders.  They are smart, competent, and ready to respond.  We are very lucky to have Katy’s leadership!

7.  L.A. ZOO – PAID SUMMER INTERNSHIP

The L.A. Zoo is hosting 10-week paid internships for college students in the zoo and conservation fields. Interns will work directly with industry professionals on real world projects, then summarize their practical knowledge and present on their experience at the conclusion of their internship.  Learn more here.
