2.  HWPOA BOARD MEETING – CANCELED

The HWPOA Board Meeting that was scheduled for this month has been canceled.  Our next board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 13.

With the November run-off election of a new City Councilmember for our district, we have invited each candidate to speak at one of our upcoming meetings.  At the September meeting, we will be hosting a conversation with Katy Young Yaroslavsky and on October 11, we will be hosting a conversation with Sam Yebri.  Additional information will be sent closer to those dates.

We hope to see you there!

3.  LEAF BLOWING ETIQUETTE

We would like to remind you that gas powered leaf blowers are illegal. They can be very noisy and disruptive to other neighborhood residents.

Gas Powered Leaf Blowers – City Ordinance

If you or your gardeners use gas powered leaf blowers, please refrain from using them. There are other options available, including a variety of electric leaf blowers. Thank you.

4.  MOVIE PREMIERE – STREET CLOSURES

Netflix will be holding the premiere of “NEVER HAVE I EVER”, at 6:00 PM on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at the Regency Village Theater, located at 961 Broxton Ave.

There will be various sidewalk and street closures around the area of Broxton Avenue between Weyburn Avenue and Le Conte Avenue.

5.  UCLA FACULTY CLUB

The UCLA Faculty Club provides members with a home away from home on campus — a quiet, attractive haven in the heart of UCLA’s huge, bustling campus. It is a place where members eat, meet, and celebrate. Offering a variety of rooms and settings, the Faculty Club is suited for members’ needs, whether for reflecting, entertaining, meeting, networking, or conferencing.

Better than ever: The UCLA Faculty Club reopens after renovations, preserving what Bruins have cherished.  Renovations include a new roof, landscaping, new paint, and two new accessible restrooms.  The club will be open for all services starting Sept. 22.

Interested in joining? Membership is open to UCLA faculty and staff, visiting faculty and researchers, UCLA emeriti and retirees, UCLA alumni, parents of UCLA students and alumni, and members of the community.

6.  DMV UPDATES

Driver’s License Renewals – Age 70+
Californians age 70 and older have five more months to take advantage of the temporary rule allowing them to renew their driver’s licenses or identification (ID) cards online or by mail.  Until the end of 2022, eligible senior drivers and REAL ID cardholders can renew noncommercial driver’s licenses and ID cards at dmv.ca.gov/online or by mail, even if their renewal notice states a visit to a DMV field office is required.

DMV Online Services

Real ID – Enforcement 9 months away
Beginning next May, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will require a valid passport or other federally approved document, like a REAL ID driver’s license or identification card, to board flights within the United States and access secure federal facilities and military bases.  Customers who want to upgrade to a REAL ID can fill out an application and upload their required documents online before visiting a DMV office to complete their application and take a new photo.

Get started at REALID.dmv.ca.gov.

8.  ACTIVITIES & THINGS TO DO

Songs to the Moon
Sunday, August 7 at 4:00 p.m.
at the Hammer Museum

The moon has always inspired poets and composers. “Songs to the Moon” begins with a set of moon-themed art songs for voice and piano. The concert concludes with a rare performance of George Crumb’s magical “Night of the Four Moons” with texts by Federico Garcia Lorca. Scored for alto voice, alto flute/piccolo, banjo, electric cello, and percussion, the work was composed in 1969 during the Apollo 11 mission.
