5.  CITY COUNCIL & MAYORAL ELECTION – CANDIDATE TALKS

CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT 5 VIRTUAL CANDIDATE FORUM – YOUTUBE LINK
Earlier this week, HWPOA co-sponsored a Westwood & UCLA Virtual Candidate Forum for L.A. City Council District 5.  The forum featured all four candidates running for CD 5: Jimmy Biblarz, Scott Epstein, Katy Young Yaroslavsky, and Sam Yebri.

Unlike other CD 5 candidate forums, this one focused specifically on Westwood, Westwood Village, UCLA, and 5th District issues.  In addition to addressing the issues of homelessness & housing affordability in Westwood, and public safety & policing, other Westwood-specific questions focused on Westwood Village revitalization & economic development, historic preservation, bike lanes in Westwood, the Sepulveda Transit Corridor Project, Westwood parks & green space, as well as L.A. City government’s failure to enforce its own laws and ordinances, and corruption in local government.

THE MEDIUM IS THE MESSAGE: FLAGS AND BANNERS
The Wende Museum at The Armory
10808 Culver Blvd., Culver City
Now through Sunday, October 23, 2022

The Wende Museum is an art museum, historical archive of the Cold War, and center for creative community engagement that explores and inspires change.

Like many other governments, the communist countries of the twentieth century produced an abundance of flags and banners. They were omnipresent at military parades, sports events, and public gatherings. Apart from national flags, many organizations produced their own richly decorated flags and banners. The Medium is the Message combines Cold War-era political flags from communist countries with contemporary artworks offering critical reflection on the here and now.
