4.  EMERGENCY PLANNING GUIDE

To encourage Angelenos to embrace emergency planning now and throughout the year, L.A. Controller Ron Galperin released an online map featuring services and programs that will help families and communities prepare for unexpected natural disasters. “Get Ready, Stay Prepared” gives a rundown of the City’s emergency prep resources and maps the locations of L.A.’s fire and police stations and other important civic buildings that residents can access before and after a disaster.

Get Ready, Stay Prepared

Galperin’s resource map also provides a step-by-step checklist to prepare Angelenos for the next emergency — whether it be an earthquake, fire, flood or even a pandemic.

5.  DMV WARNING – TEXT SCAM

The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) reminds customers that it will never ask for personal information related to driver’s license number, Social Security number or financial information through text or unsolicited phone calls or email.

The DMV has heard from multiple customers who have received text messages directing them to an unfamiliar link. If a link does not direct customers to the main DMV website at dmv.ca.gov, it is NOT from the DMV.

The department recommends customers ignore or delete any unsolicited texts or emails requesting personal information claiming to be on behalf of the DMV. Customers can report the phishing attack to the FTC at ftc.gov. If you receive a phishing email, forward it to the Anti-Phishing Working Group at reportphishing@apwg.org. For a phishing text message, forward it to SPAM (7726).

CICLAVIA – HEART OF LA
Six Miles of Open Streets
Sunday, October 10, 2021 at 09:00 AM

Not only is October 10 CicLAvia–Heart of LA but it’s our actual birthday – and we’re celebrating a decade of open streets in LA! Join us as we walk, jog, bike, rollerskate, skateboard, and wander through Mariachi Plaza, Chinatown, MacArthur Park, Civic Center, and all points in between.

CicLAvia – Heart of LA

Expect new street art, striking architecture, activities for all ages, delicious things to eat, and a few special birthday surprises!

Reminder: wear a helmet when you’re riding a bike, skateboard, or skates – and if you’re under 18, it’s the law. The CHP booth at our Mariachi Plaza Hub will be giving out free helmets to anyone under 18, while supplies last.

And did you know you can catch a free pedicab ride during CicLAvia? Just look for the Pedicab stops sign at each Hub’s info booth – and enjoy a trip along the route without breaking a sweat.
