1.  PREFERENTIAL PARKING ASSISTANCE

Our sincere thanks to Councilmember Paul Koretz and to Deputy Jasmine Shamolian who were a great help in securing “enhanced enforcement” on streets surrounding UCLA.  Preferential Parking is restricted to residents on designated streets and handicapped persons.  At the beginning of each school year, many students disregard the street signs and are unaware of the required permit.  We will have stronger enforcement now that school has resumed.

2.  TRASH BIN SCAVENGERS

HWPOA has received complaints about individuals rummaging through our sanitation bins the night before and morning of garbage collection. Such scavengers are reported in every neighborhood.

According to LAPD, once the bins are put on the public streets, residents lose their right to privacy.  Scavengers can potentially be cited for littering if they leave trash on the ground or cited for theft from the City of Los Angeles if they take recycled items.  However, patrol cars are often not immediately available and this is a low priority situation for them.

Obviously, it would be difficult to wait until the morning of pick-up just when the truck is coming down the street to put out your bins.  Residents can call the WLAPD non-emergency number,  1-877-275-5273  or email 39318@lapd.online to report the scavengers.  You may also wish to contact your security company.

Please email Dana at hwpoa@aol.com so that our office can determine how many residents have experienced this problem.  Thank you.

3.  METRO WORK ON WILSHIRE BLVD.

Summary
Piling will continue on the north side of Wilshire Blvd. between Westwood Blvd and Gayley Ave. The “piles” support the underground walls for the future Westwood/UCLA Station. The street will be restriped, and concrete “k-rail” barriers will be placed on Wilshire Blvd. to protect the public outside of the work zones.

Location – Wilshire Blvd. between Westwood Blvd. and Gayley Ave.

When – September 24 to October 30

Traffic Control – Wilshire Blvd. will have reduced lanes between Westwood Blvd. and Gayley Ave.  During nighttime drilling activities, the sidewalk north of Wilshire Blvd between Gayley Ave and Westwood Blvd will be closed to the public. The sidewalk will be open during regular daytime hours.

24/7 Hotline: 213-922-6934
