3.  FREE METRO RIDES ON CHRISTMAS & NEW YEAR’S EVE

All Metro Bus and Rail lines will be FREE to ride on the nights of Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. This means no fare will be charged on Christmas Eve from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. on Christmas morning and from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. on New Year’s Eve.

All Metro Rail stations with latched gates will be unlatched during this time. Metro will also run 24-hour rail service on New Year’s Eve, as well as enhanced service to the Rose Parade on Jan. 1. We’ll have more information on that in a separate post.

Metro Bus and Rail will run on a Sunday/Holiday schedule on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day— both fall on Wednesday this year. This means that bus lines that do not operate on Sundays will not run on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.

Additionally, some Metro Bus lines may be impacted by detours due to holiday events. Check out Metro’s Planned Service Advisories page to see if your line will be detouring and for detailed bus routes.

4.  WEST LA ANIMAL SHELTER NEEDS BLANKETS/TOWELS

The West Los Angeles Animal shelter can really use donations of new/used towels and/or blankets for the holidays — to make sure they have a supply.

It’s quite the struggle to maintain a consistent “stock” of linens, especially during the holiday seasons, to provide for all the cat kennels. It helps profusely in lessening the overwhelming, stressful environment for the animals to have a blanket to cuddle up with or hide under, and avoid URI ( upper respiratory infection).

Please drop off your donations directly at the shelter at 11361 West Pico Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90064.  Thank you!

5.  GIVE BACK DURING THE HOLIDAYS

West LAPD
Holiday Toy Drive

The Holiday Toy Drive has begun!  Drop off an unwrapped toy in the lobby of the West Los Angeles Community Police Station before December 21st and help spread Christmas cheer.

UCLA Food Closet Donations

Healthy food should be available to every student, without fear of judgment or second-class treatment.

The Community Programs Office Food Closet was created in 2009. It provides free food for any UCLA student who may be experiencing hunger and/or struggling to attain food due to financial hardships. The Food Closet accepts stock and checks as donations. Funds are used for the daily operations of the facility and program. Your donation will aid with the purchasing of fresh produce, canned goods, and toiletries.
