3.  MOVIE PREMIERE – STREET CLOSURES

Sony Pictures Animation will be holding the Premiere of “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”, at 4:00pm on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the Regency Village Theater, located at 961 Broxton Avenue in Westwood Village.

There will be various sidewalk and street closures around the area of Broxton Avenue between Weyburn Avenue and Le Conte Avenue.

4.  TOY & BOOK DRIVE – DONATIONS WELCOME

Bring a gift and a smile to children in need this holiday season!

The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles is holding a toy and book drive this month.  Check out their Amazon Wish List at http://bit.ly/JFedToyDrive and donate straight from there!

5.  FREE CONCERT AT WESTWOOD LIBRARY

Mark your calendars! The last concert of the 2018 Season of the Free Concert Series @ Westwood Library is coming up on Sunday, December 16th.  Featuring the library’s Quartet in Residence, the FIATO STRING QUARTET, bringing us two of the most famous quartets in the repertoire, contrasting Debussy’s French impressionistic style with Beethoven’s unique mixture of the serious and the playful, the cosmic and the comic, in his last completed work:

  • Debussy – Quartet in G Minor, Op. 10
  • Beethoven – Quartet No. 16, Op. 135
  • …and a special Holiday tune to end our 2018 Season!

Admission is FREE, with free parking at the library.  Library garage and doors open at 2:00 p.m.  Concerts last approximately one hour, with no intermission.

After the concert, meet the musicians and enjoy a complimentary reception hosted by FRIDA MEXICAN CUISINE and the Friends of Westwood Library.

6.  UPCOMING COMMUNITY EVENTS

PLATO Society Colloquium – November 29, 2018 at the Skirball Cultural Center (2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd.) .  The PLATO Society of Los Angeles organizes seven colloquiums a year where distinguished scholars, journalists, public figures and other professionals address a topic of wide interest.  The speaker at this event will be Dan Schnur, Professor at USC’s Annenberg School of Communications and his topic is:

The 2018 Midterms:
Sorting through the results and what it means going forward.

The program is from 1:30-3:00 in the Magnin Auditorium.  Complimentary coffee and cookies are available from 12:45. This event is open to the Public.  Admission and parking are free.

CICLAVIA: HEART OF LA – Sunday, December 2 in Chinatown, DTLA and Boyle Heights.  Streets will be closed to cars and open for cyclists, pedestrians, runners and skaters to use as a recreational space.  Click here for more information.

Ads for plumbers, housekeepers, garage sales, etc. will be posted in the weekly News. Emergency situations such as coyote sightings, lost and found pets, traffic alerts and similar situations will continue to be published during the week as received.

When placing an ad, please send to hwpoa@aol.com for the Holmby News moderator to review.  Responses to ads should be directed to the ad placer, not to HWPOA.
