1.  HWPOA BOARD MEETING – VIDEO CONFERENCE

On Tuesday, April 11 at 7:30 PM, the HWPOA Board of Directors will hold its monthly meeting.  The meeting will be a video-conference held online via Zoom.  Please click here to see the agenda.

Members of the community are welcome to join the Zoom call. Please let us know if you plan to attend and we will send you the link to access the video-conference.  Email Dana at hwpoa@aol.com.

2.  SEEKING NEW HWPOA BOARD MEMBERS

Join the Board of Directors of
Holmby Westwood Property Owners Association

The HWPOA Board is seeking Holmby Westwood residents to volunteer to serve as a Director for 1 year. We ask only that you be a financially current member of the Association for the past 2 years and have an interest in maintaining and improving the quality of life we have all come to know and enjoy.  The election of the Board of Directors will take place at our Annual Meeting on May 9.

Serving on our Board of Directors is a great way to meet your neighbors!  It’s a commitment of only 2 hours per month. You will have an extremely worthwhile experience while giving back to our community.  HWPOA is a highly respected association throughout the city and, with your involvement, we hope that will continue indefinitely.  We can only keep our property values high with resident participation.

We usually meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 PM. Our meetings have been on Zoom in recent years (due to COVID) but we may transition back to in-person meetings, which will be held at Belmont Village (on Wilshire at Warner Ave.)

We encourage all Board members to join one of our committees, which include: Security, Green Team, Westwood Village, Traffic, Holmby Park, Architectural Supervising Committee, 4th of July event, Filming (in the neighborhood), Membership, LAPD liaison and more.

Please contact Dana Glenn, our Office Manager, and let her know that you want to join our Board. Send an email to hwpoa@aol.com or call (310) 470-1785 to contact Dana. The deadline for submissions is April 10. We look forward to hearing from you!!

4.  WARNER AVE. SCHOOL EVENT – STREET CLOSURES

Warner Avenue will be having their annual Warner Walk on April 28, 2023.  This is our student-led “jog-a-thon” fundraising event where students reach out to their communities to help raise money for our school.

There will be street closures for this event. The streets that will be affected are Loring, Warner, Holmby, and Woodruff.  Each block surrounding the school will be closed from 8:00 am- 4:00 pm.  Only residents that live on the block will be allowed to drive in-and-out until 10:30 am at which point streets will be closed until the event is over for the safety of the children.

We suggest using alternate routes for the day and parking away from the school.  Parents will be coming to the event which will make parking congested between 12-3. We appreciate all the continued support from our neighbors!

5.  L.A. CONSERVANCY – WALKING TOURS OF LITTLE HOLMBY

Little Holmby Walking Tour
April 23 and April 30 (Sundays)

SOLD OUT – JOIN THE WAITLIST
Contact the LA Conservancy:
Phone (213) 623-2489 or Email info@laconservancy.org

Join the L.A. Conservancy for a guided walking tour through the historic neighborhood of Westwood-Holmby, or “Little Holmby.”

Holmby-Westwood is one of the City’s premier historic neighborhoods. An early residential suburb, it is well known for its period revival architectural styles and homes dating from the 1920s through the 1950s. It is extraordinary for its collection of residential architecture and early Los Angeles history.

On this guided tour, you’ll see stunning exteriors designed by master architects, learn about Holmby-Westwood’s relationship to nearby Westwood Village and UCLA, and discover what’s happening today in this bucolic neighborhood.

This program was part of our All Roads Lead to Westwood fall tour. We’re thrilled to be able to bring it back for a limited engagement for folks who missed it the first time around.

This tour is provided in partnership with the Holmby-Westwood Property Owners Association.

6.  FREE PIANO CONCERT AT WESTWOOD LIBRARY

Join us on Saturday, April 8, at 3:30 p.m. for next concert in the new free, informal, monthly concert series at Westwood Library called “SECOND SATURDAYS.” Next Saturday’s concert features pianist David Yang, from the graduate performance program at the USC Thornton School of Music. Mr. Yang brings us two beautiful solo piano pieces: Mozart’s elegant Sonata in F Major, KV 332, and Chopin’s monumental Sonata in B Minor, Op. 58 — both lovely sonatas that you are sure to enjoy.

The new Second Saturdays series is in addition to the Westwood Library signature Sunday concerts. (Note that in the months when we have a Sunday concert, there will be no Second Saturday concert.) Unlike the Sunday concerts, which take over the entire library while it’s closed, the Second Saturday concerts are much more informal — they take place upstairs in the alcove by the balcony while the library is open for regular business. Starting at 3:30 p.m., concerts last approximately an hour. Free parking in the library garage.

This is a great opportunity to introduce your kids to live classical music and musicians in the casual, safe, familiar setting of our local library.

7.  ACTIVITIES & THINGS TO DO

SKIRBALL PUPPET FESTIVAL
Sunday, April 16, 10:00 am–4:00 pm
at the Skirball Cultural Center (2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd.)

Wonder and merriment await at the Skirball Puppet Festival. During this fan-favorite event, puppets of all shapes and sizes will be walking, soaring, and stomping about ready to meet you! So, say hello, shake a leg, and share high fives as you move between performances from some of Southern California’s premier puppetry acts.

Adding to the magic are two wildly fun puppet parties, where festivalgoers and puppeteers all meet up to enjoy live music together. While you’re here, design a puppet with imagination-sparking materials so your newly created pal can join the fun, too!

Advance reservations are now sold out.  Walk-ups welcome.  We will post an alert on skirball.org when walk-up tickets sell out. Check here on the day of the festival.
