2.  HWPOA BOARD MEETING – VIDEO CONFERENCE

On Tuesday, January 10 at 7:30 PM, the HWPOA Board of Directors will hold its monthly meeting.  The meeting will be a video-conference held online via Zoom.  Please click here to see the agenda.

4.  CENTURY CITY ROAD CLOSURE ALERTS

Free Iran Flight 752 Memorial March – January 8 Traffic Impact
On Sunday, January 8, 2023, Bahman Brian Shahangian with the LA Protest Committee will be conducting a permitted march. Their previous marches have been cooperative with no civil disobedience, they anticipate the same for this rally.

The crowd will be assembling on Santa Monica Blvd between Century Park East and Avenue of the Stars. The route for the march is east on Santa Monica, south on Century Park East, west on Constellation Blvd, and north on Avenue of the Stars.

People are expected to start gathering at the Freedom Sculpture around 12:00pm, and start marching at 1:30pm with an anticipated ending time between 3:00 – 3:30pm.

The LAPD will have a squad of officers to monitor the crowd and to respond to any issues that may arise. Be advised that traffic may be impacted due to the large group of people.


Golden Globe Awards – January 10 Road Closures
Partial and Full Lane Closures Begin January 8 

The 80th annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony will take place at the Beverly Hilton on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.

STREET CLOSURES 
North Santa Monica Blvd.

  • Westbound: Complete lane closures, from Wilshire Blvd. to Century Park East, from 9 p.m. Sunday, January 8 through 6 a.m. Wednesday, January 11.
  • Eastbound: Complete lane closures from Century Park East to Wilshire Blvd. from 2 p.m. Monday, January 9 through 6 a.m. Wednesday, January 11. Alternate Routes: South Santa Monica to remain open in both directions

Wilshire Blvd.

  • Eastbound/Westbound: Lane reductions take place at 9 p.m. Monday, January 9.
  • Eastbound lanes of Wilshire Blvd.: will be completely closed between the Los Angeles Country Club and N. Santa Monica Blvd. (local access to residents and Country Club guests in the 10200-10300 blocks of Wilshire Blvd.) beginning at 8 p.m. Monday, January 9 through 6 a.m. Wednesday, January 11.
  • Whittier, Carmelita, Elevado and Lomitas at Walden Dr. and Tenton Dr. and adjacent alleys: These streets will be “local access only” beginning at 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 10 to 1:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 11

5.  NEW 2023 LAWS IN CALIFORNIA

6.  MOVIE PREMIERE – STREET CLOSURES

Upcoming Red Carpet Premiere

The Freehold Group will produce a premiere and afterparty for HBO on Monday, January 9, 2023.

The premiere will be hosted on Broxton Ave, with a full road closure on Broxton from Le Conte Ave to Weyburn Ave.

8.  GREATER LA HOMELESS COUNT – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority 2023 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count is around the corner.  The Westwood Count will take place on Wednesday, January 25, 10:00 PM to 12:00 AM at the Westwood Presbyterian Church in Hoffman Hall.

The Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count is the annual census that counts our neighbors experiencing unsheltered homelessness.  Through the Count, we’re better able to direct and advocate for vital services to support the needs of our unhoused neighbors.

9.  NEW RESTAURANTS IN WESTWOOD VILLAGE

EVERYTABLE – Now Open
Everytable is now open in Westwood Village. Everytable is a neighborhood store that sells fresh, ready-to-eat meals available to grab and go or dine in, including salads, wraps, and hot plates ranging from $7-10, as well as drinks, snacks, and desserts.

Everytable will host its official Grand Opening and ribbon cutting event on Wednesday, January 18, and give out free meals to the first 200 guests at 11:00 am.

DUNKIN’ Next Generation
On December 1st, Dunkin’  opened its doors to its newest Next Generation restaurant in Westwood Village. Now, people who live and work in Westwood can run on Dunkin’ faster and more conveniently than ever at this new Next Gen restaurant.

The restaurant will host an official grand opening event on Friday, January 20 to celebrate the store’s opening. More details to be shared in the coming weeks.

Mindful Awareness Meditation
Thursdays, 12:30-1:00 PM
Online and In-Person at the Billy Wilder Theater

Starting January 12 you are invited to once again enjoy Mindful Awareness Meditation in person in the Billy Wilder Theater! Every session will also be broadcast live right here on the Hammer’s website. Whether you participate in person or online, Mindful Awareness Meditation will continue every Thursday at 12:30 PM.

Mindful awareness meditation is the moment-by-moment process of actively and openly observing one’s physical, mental, and emotional experiences. Mindfulness has scientific support as a means to reduce stress, improve attention, boost the immune system, reduce emotional reactivity, and promote a general sense of health and well-being. These half-hour weekly sessions are open to people of all levels of experience.
