2.  OUTDOOR WATERING RESTRICTIONS

Water Restrictions Coming Into Effect – Los Angeles is in its third straight year of drought, and low reservoir levels mean it’s time for Angelenos to start stepping up further to conserve water responsibly. Technically, LADWP is moving to “Phase 3” of its water conservation plan. In practice, what this means for you is that starting soon – June 1 – Los Angeles will restrict 2 outdoor watering days to 2 a week  (down from three.)

3.  HWPOA MEMBERSHIP – ONLINE DUES PAYMENTS

For many years, HWPOA has offered members the option to pay annual membership dues online.  We were recently notified that there was a glitch on the payment website that made it difficult to pay dues.  Our service provider (Square) has informed us that the glitch has been fixed, so if you would like to pay dues online, it should be working properly.  We are very sorry if you had difficulties paying dues in recent months.

If you would like to renew your HWPOA membership online, please use this link:

If you experience any technical issues, please email hwpoa@aol.com and let us know so that we may address the problem.  Thank you.

4.  DMV EXTENDED HOURS

The California Department of Motor Vehicles will open 64 field offices across the state an hour earlier beginning Thursday, June 2, and ending Friday, September 30.

“While most folks no longer need to visit us at the office, for the rare times they do, we’ve extended our hours. Giving customers an extra hour to complete their DMV transactions is just another way the DMV is making things convenient for our customers,” said DMV Director Steve Gordon. “The extra hour also allows more customers to complete their REAL ID application now instead of waiting until next spring as the federal enforcement date nears.”

Starting next week, many field offices will open at 7 a.m. every weekday, except Wednesdays. The offices will open at 9 a.m. on Wednesday and close at 5 p.m. daily.

5.  LAPD CRIME REPORT

LADDER ACCESS TO HOMES
The LAPD is reminding homeowners that suspects may use a ladder located in the backyard to gain access to the second- floor balcony.

If you have any ladders on your property, please secure them in a locked garage, storage shed or secure with chain to prevent suspects from gaining access to the second story. Most suspects expect the second story of a home to not be alarmed like the first floor. Remember always lock your doors and windows (even on the second floor) when you leave your home.

PERSONAL TRAINER RECOMMENDATION
I would like to recommend personal trainer, Tom Dailey who already has a number of clients in the neighborhood.

“Dailey” Master Trainer’s Longevity Tips
Tom Dailey, health coach and master trainer with 23 years in the health and fitness industry, provides you with knowledge to slow the aging clock, improve your vitality and overall quality of life.

Stand on one leg to improve longevity?!?!
Did you know that in addition to nutrition, exercise, and quality sleep/stress management, balance and stability are indicators of biological age and longevity?  Without regular practice, balance skills will worsen with age, greatly increasing the risk of falling.  Fortunately, this skill can be improved simply by spending time standing on one leg; but for how long?  By age, the normal period of single leg stance ability with eyes opened is as follows:

  • Under 40:  45 seconds
  • 40-49:  42 seconds
  • 50-59:  41 seconds
  • 60-69:  32 seconds
  • 70-79:  22 seconds
  • 80-99:  9 seconds

Additionally, when slightly more complex balance exercises are practiced, brain health and function are positively impacted, and that’s something all of us would like to experience.

My programs addressboth the physical and lifestyle components of longevity and anti-aging: mobility/flexibility, strength and cardiovascular training, balance/stability, stress management, sleep, and nutrition.
