2. EARTHQUAKE SAFETY
Early yesterday morning we were awakened by several earthquakes, which was a good reminder that we should prepare for disasters that may occur in Los Angeles.
A few years ago, HWPOA hosted a Disaster Preparedness presentation, with speakers from the LAFD and a geologist from UCLA. Videos of the presentation can be found on YouTube:

In addition, ShakeAlertLA is a mobile app that sends alerts to users within Los Angeles County that an earthquake of greater than magnitude 4.5 or level III intensity has been detected and that they may soon feel shaking. The app is available for both Apple and Android devices and available in both English and Spanish. You can also use this app to prepare for an earthquake, get details on recent earthquakes, and find help after an earthquake.
3. CONSTRUCTION NOISE ON SUNDAYS
We have received comments from concerned neighbors regarding construction noise outside of the permitted construction hours. While homeowners may work on their own homes personally, hired construction workers may not make noise on Sundays.
If you are doing any sort of construction on your home, please be sure to follow the Los Angeles Municipal Code rules:
41.40 LAMC – Construction Noise
Allowable Construction Hours:
— Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
— Saturdays and National Holidays between 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
— Sundays, no construction except for residents
4. DMV UPDATES
The California Department of Motor Vehicles is encouraging eligible Californians to renew their driver license online – including drivers whose temporary extensions expire July 31.
As part of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the DMV issued temporary extensions to California drivers age 69 and younger with a noncommercial license expiring between March and July 2020. While that extension expires today, nearly all of these drivers can still avoid a trip to a DMV field office by renewing their license online – even if their renewal notice states an office visit is required.

5. HAVE YOU COMPLETED THE CENSUS?
LA County Health officials have sounded the alarm over current low census response rates that are putting LA County at risk of losing federal funding to respond to emergencies like COVID-19. Health officials are highlighting the COVID-19 crisis as an example of how important federal funding is to maintaining a strong local health care system.
LA County’s census response rate is 58.6% as of July 23, far behind the County’s goal of 100% participation. The U.S. Census Bureau, however, has extended the official deadline to participate in the census to October 31 in response to the evolving COVID-19 crisis. If you haven’t already done so, complete your census form now:
- Online: LA County 2020 Census Website at census.lacounty.gov, which offers county-specific information in 16 languages; or the U.S. 2020 Census Website at my2020census.gov, which offers general information in 59 languages, including in-language guides
- By phone, at 844-330-2020.
- By mail, if you receive a paper form.
Remember, completing the census is private. Responses are protected by federal law, specifically Title 13 of the United States Code. They cannot be shared with any other government agencies or other entities, including your landlord. For more information, visit census.lacounty.gov.

Restaurants and cafes in Westwood Village now offer safe outdoor dining through the LA Al Fresco program. Grab a cup of coffee or a lovely meal outside at any number of Village eateries. You can also support local Westwood Village restaurants by ordering takeout and delivery:
