1.  JULY 4th – SPECIAL THANKS TO ESTHER MAGNA

A Special “shout out” to Esther Magna

A huge thank you to Esther Magna and her team for the spectacular July 4th Parade and Picnic!!  I heard so many wonderful comments at Warner Ave. School where the parade got underway as well as at Holmby Park.  This is a volunteer effort that Esther has championed for many years and has always made it seem like smooth sailing even when the waters got a little rough.  Our families and their pets seemed so proud to celebrate this country and love of our community.   It is, indeed, very special.

Thank you to each and every sponsor – we couldn’t do it without their support!!!   Please remember our local realtors, Jordan Leigh, Jane Gavens, Mark Rogo, Jim Bremner, Larry Young, and Caron Schwartz when you or your friends or family decide to sell or buy, UCLA Health, Target, and ACS Security, Chris from Kringle Displays who decorated Holmby Park, our firefighters from Station #71, Capt. Davalos and SLO Maria Gray from LAPD, TGA Premier Sports, our Board member, Earl Goldstein who secured the red corvette, Allyson Bunting, our favorite photographer, Councilman Koretz, and the July 4th team, Rachelle Guerin, Dennis Rosenblatt, Phil Gabriel, Caron Schwartz, Katherine Meyer, Randie Kleinman, Mark Magna, Hedy Magna, Jessie Ezor and Dana Glenn!  Great job and many thanks from our Holmby Westwood residents.

I know Esther thanked everyone but this is especially from the Board of Directors and our members!  Think about volunteering next year!

A few reminders regarding dog walking – please be sure to remind everyone  in your household that walks your dog – children, housekeepers, dog walkers, etc.

Keep Dogs on a Leash
For the safety of your neighbors, children and other dogs, please keep your dog on a leash at all times when you are outside of your home.  We have had several past reports of dog attacks in the neighborhood, injuring both people and dogs.  Please follow the law and keep your dog on a leash.

Use Your Own Trash Bins
While everyone appreciates that you are picking up dog waste, please dispose of it in your own trash bin.  Please be respectful and do not use your neighbors’ bins.

Thank you for your cooperation.

7.  UPCOMING COMMUNITY EVENTS

American Genre Film Archive –  July 12 – Aug 17 at the Billy Wilder Theater and presented by the UCLA Film & Television Archive.  Established as a non-profit in 2009, the Austin-based American Genre Film Archive (AGFA) continues to be a bastion of horror, action, exploitation, fantasy and weirdo cult cinema. Join us this summer for a seven-night series featuring the strangest, coolest and head-trippiest titles from AGFA’s outlandish collection. Guests will include punk rock maven Penelope Spheeris, Something Weird Video’s Lisa Petrucci, the hosts of Shock Waves Podcast for a live taping, and the entire AGFA team! Click here for more information.

Summer Concerts at the Hammer Museum – The Hammer’s summer concerts are back! See live bands and KCRW DJs in the museum’s courtyard, with cash bars and food trucks all night.

Next concert – Thursday, July 25: The Tracks
Known for ferocious live sets, young rockers The Tracks lived up to the hype on last year’s debut album, Treasured Memories. Having grown up as the children of undocumented immigrants in East L.A., the group builds on the rich history of rebellious Chicano rock ’n’ roll bands.

GROUP FOR PEOPLE WITH A CHRONIC LUNG CONDITION

I host a meeting every other month for people with chronic lung conditions other than TB or cancer. It’s a very informal support and information group, free of charge, which has been ongoing for about 15 years. The meetings bring together people who all share a common health problem, so we can feel completely comfortable talking about our lung issues in a warm, supportive environment. Each of us has a history of diagnosis, treatment, and day-to-day experience that is very helpful for answering our questions and getting the benefit of people’s personal experience. Even with the best of doctors, this is an invaluable service.

We are affiliated with a national non-profit organization, NTM Info & Research (NTMir), formed on behalf of patients with pulmonary nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) disease for the purpose of patient support, medical education, and research. The organization comprises patients, physicians and other medical practitioners, and researchers.

Our group is open to all and the next meeting will be on Monday, July 22, at 1:15 p.m., at my house, 641 Warner Avenue, in Westwood.

Please feel free to contact me for more information. I look forward to speaking with you and meeting you!
