1.  JULY 4th EVENT – THANK YOU!

A huge thank you to our residents and sponsors!!!

It was our 15th annual event and it was fantastic. It was a large and festive 4th of July celebration! See the pics below—it was a ton of fun!

THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS:

UCLA Health returned as our Platinum sponsor with a generous contribution that covered many of our expenses. Thank you, UCLA Health for your support of Holmby Westwood. All enjoyed the sunglasses and football giveaways.

ACS Security has been feeding us for many years. They happily and swiftly cooked for the entire crowd. Their BBQ dedication was fantastic. To Michelle Haffey and her volunteer staff, your dogs were delicious. Amazing!

Our local realtors deserve our appreciation for their sponsorship. Their sponsorship covered all the kids activities, including the DJ, obstacle courses and crafts.

A big thank you to Councilmember Paul Koretz who sponsored our Rec & Park permit through his Officeholder Account.  We are very appreciative of his support of our annual community July 4th event. Paul rode in our parade as our Grand Marshal.  Thanks also to Kevin and Debbie in CD 5 who celebrated the day with us!

The firemen from Fire Station #71 were outstanding and so gracious to stay at the park while kids admired them and their truck. Captain Victor Davalos and his LAPD team were there in full effect which we really appreciate.

The work of our talented photographer, Allyson Bunting, was much appreciated in capturing all the quality moments of the event.

Earl Goldstein – we appreciate that your friend brought his awesome 1950s Corvette to lead the parade.

SPREAD THE WORD about the good work HWPOA does for the benefit of its residents. Community building, regular email communication among the residents and advocacy in City Hall are just a few of the activities our Board undertakes. We must work together for our shared concerns of architectural integrity, high-rise opposition, greenscape preservation, emergency preparedness and crime watch. Residents pay $95 annually to join HWPOA. You must pay the dues to be a member; being a resident alone won’t do it. Email  HWPOA at hwpoa@aol.com to sign up.

3.  EARTHQUAKE SAFETY REMINDERS

The recent earthquakes in California are a good reminder that we should prepare for disasters that may occur in Los Angeles.

A few years ago, HWPOA hosted a Disaster Preparedness presentation, with speakers from the LAFD and a geologist from UCLA.  Videos of the presentation can be found on YouTube:

Part 1 – https://youtu.be/dxLoVloKvyw
Susan Reuben (HWPOA Vice President) discusses our neighborhood preparedness plans; Lt. Mark Akahoshi (LAFD Battalion Chief) discusses earthquake preparedness and the CERT training program.

Part 2 –  https://youtu.be/8xaTlJEhM5s
Debbie Weiser (Geologist) discusses earthquake hazards in West Los Angeles, the “Big One”, and what to do before, during, and after an earthquake.

Below, you will find links to a number of websites that may be helpful with earthquake preparedness and safety:

In addition, ShakeAlertLA is a mobile app that sends alerts to users within Los Angeles County that an earthquake of greater than magnitude 5.0 or level IV intensity has been detected and that they may soon feel shaking.  The app is available for both Apple and Android devices and available in both English and Spanish. You can also use this app to prepare for an earthquake, get details on recent earthquakes, and find help after an earthquake.
