1.  STREET REPAIR REQUESTS

The Bureau of Street Services has scheduled a Small Asphalt Repairs (SAR) truck (which is described as 1 small asphalt repair truck, consisting of 2 workers and asphalt), for the Westwood Neighborhood Council area, to perform small asphalt repairs on August 21, 2018.

The type of repairs that can be addressed with this program include the following:
– Potholes and pop outs
– Skin patching of eroded or cracked areas
– Some repairs on concrete streets

The Westwood Neighborhood Council has asked us to submit suggested locations in our neighborhood for small street repairs. The city will only send the SAR truck to a total of 15 locations in the entire Westwood Neighborhood Council area, so Holmby Westwood will only see a handful of repairs.

If you are aware of any spots in our neighborhood that would be particularly good candidates for this program, please send requests to Dana at hwpoa@aol.com no later than Monday, July 30.  Please only send street repair requests, not sidewalks or curbs.

NOTE: Street repaving is not part of this program.  Please do not submit requests to repave streets.

2.  LAPD CRIME REPORT

VEHICLE, STOLEN
Incident #: 180813172
800 BLOCK WARNER AV  |  7/13/2018 @ 1:00 PM

Robbery on Devon (between Strathmore & Lindbrook)
At about 2:30 PM on Thursday, July 19, two masked men and a woman driving a silver Infiniti burglarized a home by entering the locked rear door.  The suspects escaped within a short time down Devon towards Wilshire.  Suspects driving the same car burglarized a home south of Wilshire on Warnall at about the same time of day, two days earlier.  They escaped with a safe on Warnall.

If you see a silver Infiniti with potential suspects, please call the LAPD:

EMERGENCY: 911
LAPD NON-EMERGENCY: 1-877-275-5273

We will forward additional information as it becomes available.

LAPD ADVICE – WHEN HELICOPTERS ARE CIRCLING:
LAPD has responded with “Air Support” recently to a few active burglary reports and/or traffic stops in the area. LAPD has advised that YOU can help yourself and the police by turning on all exterior lights AND by locking doors and windows until the situation has cleared. Some of our members have had their electrician install powerful LED flood lights in their backyard to light up the night when they hear or see something. Please understand that while a police helicopter hovering over your house at night can be disturbing, this is the BEST way to coordinate ground response teams to keep you safe!

3.  PARKWAY TREE UPDATE

Our parkway streets provide shade, aesthetic and environmental benefits, and significantly enhance the economic value of individual properties and the neighborhood.    The reverse is also true—houses without parkway trees are diminished in value and contribute to neighborhood decline.

Following up on the Holmby Westwood Parkway Tree Inventory presented by the UCLA Project Team at the HWPOA Annual Meeting, homeowners Marnie Bodek and Kathryn Welch Howe convened interested neighbors to discuss next steps.

At their meeting, the neighbors decided to form a Green Team, to increase neighborhood appreciation of our unique tree canopy and to build awareness of proper tree care and maintenance.  The Green Team also decided to partner with Tree People, the national non-profit environmental organization located in Coldwater Canyon,  to identify appropriate replacements for missing parkway trees, and with owners’ consent and participation, to plant trees on our “Dream Streets”—streets that have the highest number of missing trees.
