3.  REGISTER TO VOTE BEFORE JUNE PRIMARY

It’s a midterm election year! Midterm elections tend to see a lower turnout than presidential election years, but they’re no less important. Make sure you are registered to vote on candidates and ballot measures that will shape the direction of our state. The deadline to register for the California primaries is May 21, 2018.

Whether you need to update your registration or register to vote for the first time, it’s quick and easy at registertovote.ca.gov. If you’re not sure about your voter status, check at voterstatus.sos.ca.gov.

If you are 16 or 17 years old, you can use this online registration application to pre-register to vote. This means you will automatically be registered to vote when you turn 18.

4.  UPCOMING COMMUNITY MEETINGS

West L.A. C-PAB (Community-Police Advisory Board) – The meeting scheduled for Tuesday April 24, 2018 has been CANCELLED.  The next C-PAB meeting will be on May 22nd.

VA West LA Principal Developer Public Hearing – Thursday, April 26, 2018 from 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM at the West LA VA Medical Center, Building 500, Room 1281

The day is finally here: the VA has a strategy for delivering 1,200 homes at the VA West LA campus for veterans and their families. Last Friday, VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System announced a proposal to enter into a 75-year lease with a principal developer in order to develop 1,200 homes for homeless veterans at the VA West LA campus and build a real veteran community.

5.  SAFE PARKING FOR VETERANS

We at VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (VAGLAHS) are committed to providing high-quality, safe and compassionate care to our Veterans.  Many homeless Veterans are currently living in their vehicles both on campus and in the community. We know that Veterans are more empowered to engage in services when they have a secure place to sleep without fear of relocation, citations or predatory activity. VA is grateful to be able to partner with Safe Parking L.A. to afford eligible Veterans an opportunity to sleep safely in their vehicles on the West L.A. campus, thereby facilitating access to the supportive services necessary to complete their transition into permanent housing.

The arrangement will start small with approximately 10 parking spaces but may grow as demand increases. VA remains committed to revitalizing the campus to a 21st Century, state-of-the-art home for our Veterans.  For questions or additional information, please contact VHAGLAMasterPlan@va.gov.
