1.  HWPOA PRESIDENT’S UPDATE

Sandy Brown, president of HWPOA, met with Congressman Ted Lieu and his staff on issues affecting Holmby Westwood. They discussed long-time problems with postal delivery (USPS) in the neighborhood as previously reported in our weekly news. She recently attended a meeting at the WLA VA with representatives from the Congressman’s office and the Secretary of Veteran’s Affairs. HWPOA sent a letter of support of the VA Master Plan for environmental and historic preservation due diligence which will be printed in the Federal Register.

This week, Sandy met with L.A. City Council President Herb Wesson and other Westwood homeowner and community leaders to discuss local issues relating to traffic, infrastructure, and the perennial battle over development and increasing density/congestion. This conversation has been ongoing for many years with ever-changing officeholders and will likely continue for years to come. We will keep the community informed.

2.  CENTURY PLAZA HOTEL – DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

This article appeared in the Los Angeles Times on 12/9/15. As nearby neighbors, you might be interested in development in Century City. This is in addition to the $700 million Westfield renovation currently under construction.

3.  FEDERAL ISSUES SURVEY

From the Office of Congressman Ted Lieu:

Dear Friends:

It is a great honor to serve as your voice in the United States House of Representatives. Here are some of my priorities, but I would also like to hear from you:

  • Protecting Retirement Security
  • Combating Climate Change
  • Investing In America’s Heroes

Please take part in our issue survey online. We want your feedback.

I look forward to hearing from you about these crucial issues and much more during my upcoming constituent telephone town hall.

4.  CRIME REPORT

LAPD Senior Lead Officer Chris Ragsdale reported a 20% increase in property crime in Westwood. Please remember to protect your purses, tech property such as smartphones and computers, and bicycles – anything left unlocked and visible in a car or garage is viewed as easy pickings, that is, easy to steal. Please be mindful at all times!
