1.  DROUGHT-TOLERANT PARKWAY LANDSCAPING

In an effort to save water during the drought, HWPOA formed a committee recently to research alternative landscaping options for neighborhood parkways (the strip of grass/plants between the sidewalk and the street).  The committee has completed their research, and their recommendations can be found here:

Water-Wise Parkway Plants

Please note, it is still important to water the trees on your parkway.  Trees still need water, even in the drought, and can die or become unsafe if not cared for properly.  A tree on Beverly Glen recently fell over as a result of not being properly watered.

2.  NEW STOP SIGNS AND 25 MPH SIGNS

COMING SOON to Holmby Westwood:
Additional STOP signs and 25 MPH signs

Over the past several years, our residents have complained about cut-through traffic on our residential streets. Sunset traffic is heavy as is Beverly Glen and Hilgard during rush hours. Speeding cars present a safety issue and, in some cases, make pulling out of your driveway difficult. The association has taken your email suggestions to the Dept. of Transportation. Not all requests could be approved as they did not conform to DOT’s guidelines and restrictions.

DOT has approved additional STOP signs for the following locations where they will be installed in the coming months:

  • Bainbridge westbound at Woodruff
  • Malcolm and Weyburn, east and westbound
  • Conway at Comstock
  • Lomond northbound at Dalehurst
  • Loring, north and southbound at Charing Cross

In addition, 25 MPH speed limit signs will be posted throughout the neighborhood, reminding drivers to slow down.

3.  SCHOOL BUS SAFETY AT HOLMBY PARK

With school back in session, we have received complaints about safety issues around Holmby Park during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times.  Some parents and students are not following safety rules, creating a dangerous and noisy situation.

We have notified the LAPD, who in turn notified the West Traffic Division’s Community Traffic Services Unit (CTSU) for monitoring and enforcement when appropriate. The CTSU can also be reached directly at 213-473-0215. West Los Angeles Area Patrol Officers will monitor when available.

4.  CAR BREAK-IN ON LORING

A resident on the 400 block of Loring reported that his locked Lexus was broken into somewhere between 4pm, Saturday, Sep 12 and 10am on Sunday, Sep 13th. No damage done to the car but they took a GoPro camera buried at the bottom of the center console.  The theft was reported to the West LA Police.
