1.  STREET REPAIR REQUESTS

The Bureau of Street Services has scheduled a Small Asphalt Repairs (SAR) truck (which is described as 1 small asphalt repair truck, consisting of 2 workers and asphalt), for the Westwood Neighborhood Council area, to perform small asphalt repairs on 9/9/15.

The type of repairs that can be addressed with this program include the following:
– Potholes and pop outs
– Skin patching of eroded or cracked areas
– Some repairs on concrete streets

The Westwood Neighborhood Council has asked us to submit suggested locations in our neighborhood for small street repairs. The city will only send the SAR truck to a total of 15 locations in the entire Westwood Neighborhood Council area, so Holmby Westwood will only see a handful of repairs.

If you are aware of any spots in our neighborhood that would be particularly good candidates for this program, please send requests to Dana at hwpoa@aol.com no later than August 21.  Please only send street repair requests, not sidewalks or curbs.

2.  EARTHQUAKE SAFETY MEETING & CERT TRAINING

Geologist Deborah Weiser from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) will speak to residents of our community about where the fault lines are located in Holmby Westwood, what we can expect following a massive earthquake, and how we can protect ourselves, our families, and our homes.

CERT training provides private citizens with the basic skills they will need to handle their own needs and then respond to their community’s needs in the aftermath of a disaster when professional emergency services (fire, ambulance, police, etc.) will not be available for up to 6 weeks.

4.  STUDIO/COMMERCIAL FILMING IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Dear Holmby Westwood residents,

Studio/commercial filming has become a habit in Holmby Westwood both during the week and on weekends. I will be meeting with Community Relations at FILM/LA to discuss this recent situation. The office gets repeated calls from neighbors about the problems of parking and home access. We have been sent photos of trucks double parked, wardrobe out on the sidewalk, generators, etc. We will have had 3 films at 3 sites in our community within 2 weeks.

While the Board understands the need to support our film industry, we have usually been able to accommodate filming needs without impacts on residents.

Please help us manage this situation.

Thank you,
Sandy Brown
HWPOA President

5.  BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETY

This Tuesday, August 18 is the first day of school for LAUSD.  Please be careful when driving around the neighborhood at drop-off and pick-up times, and if you are a parent of a student, please observe all safety regulations when dropping off or picking up your children.  Let’s keep the neighborhood safe!
