1.  FIREWORKS AND PET SAFETY

Pet Safety Tips for 4th of July — provided by City of Los Angeles Animal Services.  Make this Independence Day fun and SAFE for your pets! Some people love big gatherings and loud noises – but that can be very frightening for our pets.

PLAN AHEAD
Make sure your dog is wearing a license tag. This will help us reunite families if a pet does get lost.

KEEP PETS INDOORS
Keep your pets inside. If you are having guests over, keep pets in a room that is off-limits to guests, with plenty of water and food.

CREATE A CALMING ENVIRONMENT
Surround pets with their favorite toys and other familiar objects. Play soothing music and keep the room as quiet as possible by closing doors, windows and blinds.

KEEP AWAY FROM FIREWORKS
Even if your pet does not seem obviously upset by fireworks, they can still cause harm to pets. Avoid potential burns, injuries, or possible ingestion by keeping all pets out of the vicinity of fireworks.

2.  LAPD CRIME REPORT

Because it’s a holiday weekend, more people are active by going on hikes, shopping and barbequing at family gatherings. Consider, are we are the only ones active? Criminals are on the prowl and one of the easiest, low-risk crimes is vehicle burglaries.

To thieves, property left in cars provides a wide variety of merchandise.

-Laptop computers
-Cell phones
-GPS devices
-Purses and wallets

All these things just scratch the surface of the variety of “window shopping” goodies criminals feast upon. It takes less than a minute to break a vehicle’s window, unlock the door, and remove items left inside. Most of the time, there are no witnesses to these offenses because of the ease and speed it can be done and there’s a higher likelihood of it happening Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Like LAPD says, “Lock it, Hide it, Keep it.”

Grand Theft Auto:
Le Conte Ave/ Hilgard (RD 0817): On 06/30/15 between 5:40pm and 9:30pm victim parked their vehicle on the street. Unknown suspect(s) took a 2013, Ford Mustang.  2013 Ford Mustang was recovered in Wilshire Division and an arrest was made.

3.  ROBINSONS/MAY DEVELOPMENT

Many HW residents have expressed interest in the pending development at the site of the Robinson’s/May dept. store at Whittier and Wilshire. We hope this will update you on the most recent plan!
