1. FIREWORKS NOTIFICATION – LA COUNTRY CLUB
To Neighbors of The Los Angeles Country Club:
Please be informed that on the evening of May 30, 2015 around 9:00 p.m., the Los Angeles Country Club will be conducting a fireworks show for approximately 8 minutes to celebrate the 104th anniversary of our Clubhouse. We want to ensure that you have proper notice so as not to startle anybody. We also hope that you are able to enjoy the fireworks show from your own homes. We appreciate your understanding and hope this will not be an inconvenience for you.

2. LAPD CRIME REPORT
Current Trending Analysis:
Residential Burglaries: North of Santa Monica Blvd. (3 crimes), North of Wilshire Blvd. (7 crimes). North of Sunset Blvd. (8 crimes). Auto related crimes (Break Ins and Stolen Vehicles): North of Santa Monica Blvd. (3 crimes), North of Wilshire Blvd. (5 crimes) North of Sunset Blvd. (6 crimes). Package Thefts appear to be trending throughout the area. Packages being delivered and left unattended in accessible areas are being stolen. Please arrange to have packages dropped off in a secure location or receivable location.
Protect yourself from becoming a victim and crime statistic. Ensure that you remove all visible items and valuables from inside of your vehicle. Your car, regardless of whether it’s locked and secured or not, is not a safe or secure place to leave ANYTHING! Remember, Lock It, Hide It, Keep It!
Burglary:
700 block Malcolm Ave. RD: 0828. On 5/13/15, between 12:40 PM and 2:30 PM, unknown suspect(s) gained entry into residence by forcing a rear door open. Once inside, suspects ransacked location and fled. No property taken.
10500 block Lindbrook Drive. RD: 0828. On 5/13/15, at 1:30 PM, unknown suspect(s) kicked front door open to gain entry and ransacked location. Suspect(s) fled after hearing home alarm.
10400 block Bainbridge Ave. RD: 0819. Unknown suspect(s) entered residence by cutting the side kitchen window screen and removed jewelry.
Burglary Theft from Motor Vehicle:
700 block Thayer Ave. RD: 0828. On 5/10/15, between 6:30 PM and 10:00 PM, unknown suspect(s) entered vehicle parked on the street and removed iPad, luggage and clothing.
700 block Westholme Ave. RD: 0828. Between 5/2/15, 7:30 PM and 5/3/15, 6:30 AM, unknown suspect(s) entered vehicle parked on the street and removed Handicap Placard.
3. AUTO KEY FOBS – WARNING
From the LAPD:
Auto key fobs—those neat little devices that are becoming the standard for vehicle door locks allow drivers to walk up to their car and have it automatically unlock just by being in its proximity. Very cool– the problem is, that thieves have discovered that they can use power amplifiers which increase the range for which the car searches for its compatible fob.
So in a nutshell, you can be in your home, with your fob on your bureau, and the bad guy can use a power amplifier to increase the radius of the search (to within your residence) and when it recognizes it, it unlocks the car for the thief. No broken windows, no suspicious noises, nothing unusual going on that would make someone suspect a car is being broken into or stolen. The suspect simply walks up to your car and the lock unlocks.
It’s been suggested that the best way to prevent this from happening is to conceal your vehicle’s fob within a metal container of some sort which would block the power amplifier from connecting with it. The refrigerator or freezer seems to do the trick. Just something to keep in mind.

Fire Station # 71 will hold is Annual Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser on Sunday, June 7 from 8:00-11:00 AM (at the corner of Sunset and Beverly Glen). Breakfast is free but donations go for station improvements. For more information, please click here : 2015Flyer

Shred Your Documents – June 6th, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Emerson Community Charter Middle School (1650 Selby Avenue) is holding another free shredding event for all members of the surrounding community. Sponsored by Kelly Aluise of Keller Williams Realty and Ciaran Kelly of Luther Burbank Mortgage.
Enter the driveway between Emerson’s auditorium and St. Paul’s school. A giant paper shredder truck with shredding specialists that are bonded and employed by Shred Confidential will be located in the faculty parking lot. Watch your documents be shredded at a rate of 8000 pounds per hour!
Donations to benefit Emerson Community Charter School are welcome.

CREEPING THYME GROUND COVER
Following up on the topic of drought-tolerant plants. The BIG thirsty part of our gardens is the lawn.
Would want to know if any member has found a suitable ground cover to replace the lawn. I was told that “creeping thyme” would do the job, and it’s good for sun and shade. Anyone has experience with it, or any other? rozengurt@hotmail.com
