In addition to our regular business, we will be discussing the Historic Preservation Overlay Zone (HPOZ) and the Interim Control Ordinance (ICO).

We will also be electing our 2015-16 HWPOA Board of Directors.

2.  INTERIM CONTROL ORDINANCE (ICO)

On Tuesday, April 28th, the Los Angeles Planning and Land Use Committee voted to extend the Interim Control Ordinances (ICOs) covering 20 communities in the City of Los Angeles (including Holmby Westwood). The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously to extend these ordinances on Wednesday April 29th. The complete ordinance is included herewith via the following link:  ICOHolmbyWestwood

3.  LAPD CRIME REPORT

Current Trending Analysis:
Residential Burglaries: North of Santa Monica Blvd. (0 crimes), North of Wilshire Blvd. (3 crimes). North of Sunset Blvd. (1 crime). Auto related crimes (Break Ins and Stolen Vehicles): North of Santa Monica Blvd. (1 crime), North of Wilshire Blvd. (1 crimes) North of Sunset Blvd. (0 crimes). Package Thefts appear to be trending throughout the area. Packages being delivered and left unattended in accessible areas are being stolen. Please arrange to have packages dropped off in a secure location or receivable location.

Protect yourself from becoming a victim and crime statistic. Ensure that you remove all visible items and valuables from inside of your vehicle. Your car, regardless of whether it’s locked and secured or not, is not a safe or secure place to leave ANYTHING! Remember, Lock It, Hide It, Keep It!

Burglary:
700 block Beverly Glen Blvd. RD: 0819. On 04/21/15 between 12:35 PM and 1:10 PM, suspect(s) kicked rear bedroom door to gain entry and removed jewelry.

Burglary Theft from Motor Vehicle:
10700 block Weyburn Ave. RD: 0828. Between 4/15/15, 7:00 PM and 4/16/15, 10:00 AM, unknown suspect(s) entered unsecured vehicle parked in driveway and removed wallet, drapes and jewelry.

Grand/Petty Theft:
900 block Thayer Ave. RD: 0828. On 04/22/15, between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM, suspect(s) entered construction site and removed tools.

4.  LADWP REBATES AND PROGRAMS

LADWP offers a variety of rebates and programs for our residential customers. As a publicly-owned utility, the LADWP makes these programs available to assist our customers in using energy and water more efficiently as well as saving money and resources while improving our environment.  Offers include free showerheads, rebates for turf replacement, and rebates for pool pump replacement.

5.  WESTWOOD LIBRARY – 10TH ANNIVERSARY EVENTS

Happy Birthday to the Westwood Branch Library! This month Westwood turns 10 and to celebrate we have an amazing day of fun planned on Saturday, May 9th:

  • The Magic of Tony Daniels for Kids: Come one, come all to be dazzled and amazed by the magic of Tony Daniels! Don’t miss the excitement! 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.
  • Thor’s Reptile Family for Kids: Kids will experience excitement when they see the exotic collection of reptiles in Thor’s Reptile Family. 11:30 a.m.
  • Airbrush Tattoos for Teens: Professional airbrush artists will create colorful temporary tattoos for teens! 1:00 p.m.
  • Ten Year Anniversary Ceremony and Program: Celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Westwood Branch Library featuring Harry Potter, and the LA Fire Dept.! 1:00 p.m.
  • UCLA Gluck Fellows Brass Septet Concert :The group will perform Carmen Fantasie (arr. Bolin), On A Turquoise Cloud (arr. Bolin), and original works. 3:00 p.m.
  • Vocal Musical Recital by Susanna Lucarelli: A one-hour program of Italian opera arias, jazz standards, and other traditional favorites by Susanna Lucarelli. 4:15 p.m.

6.  UPCOMING COMMUNITY EVENTS

Emerson/UCLA “A-Capella Jam” – May 2 at 7:00 PM (dinner available for purchase at 5pm).  UCLA’s Top A-Capella singing groups will perform at Emerson Community Charter School (1650 Selby Ave.) in a concert to benefit arts education at our neighborhood public middle school. A-Capella Jam

Quartet in Residence @ Westwood Library – Sunday, May 3 at 2:30 PM.  Join us as we kick off the 2015 Season of our popular Concert Series @ Westwood Library, featuring the library’s Quartet in Residence, the Fiato String Quartet. Once again, we’ll be upstairs in the library itself on a Sunday afternoon when the library is not otherwise open for regular business.

“Bruin Walk” in Westwood – May 16th at 10 a.m., beginning at 1154 Westwood Boulevard. This walk is sponsored by and raises funds for Los Angeles Walks, a group that seeks to improve conditions for people who walk in the City of Los Angeles. The 3.5 mile walk will highlight the history of Westwood and pedestrian perspectives on the neighborhood.
