1.  COMMUNITY ALERT – INCIDENT ON LE CONTE

A homeowner on Le Conte between Warner and Thayer reported the following incident:

On Monday morning 1/30 around 6:45AM a young Hispanic male was on my property on the driveway behaving erratically and yelling.  He was reading my newspaper and tearing it up and yelling.  He went to the front door and began banging on it and yelling into my home cameras.

ACS and LAPD were dispatched and he ran towards Warner Avenue.  According to the Police, he ran through yards on Warner Ave and climbed on one roof.  He was NOT apprehended.  He got away.

If you see this man in the area, please contact the LAPD immediately.

On 1/31/17, two Residential Burglaries occurred on Holmby Ave. In both cases the suspect(s) gained access to the rear yard and forced entry through a rear window.  Once inside the suspect(s) ransacked rooms removing jewelry, money and other valuables.

Immediate Detection and verification is crucial to the arrest and apprehension of these suspects: http://ktla.com/2015/08/28/after-attempted-home-invasion-in-valley-village-lapd-looks-for-suspect-for-hours/.

3.  STREET REPAIR REQUESTS

The Bureau of Street Services has scheduled a Small Asphalt Repairs (SAR) truck (which is described as 1 small asphalt repair truck, consisting of 2 workers and asphalt), for the Westwood Neighborhood Council area, to perform small asphalt repairs on March 9, 2017.

The type of repairs that can be addressed with this program include the following:
– Potholes and pop outs
– Skin patching of eroded or cracked areas
– Some repairs on concrete streets

The Westwood Neighborhood Council has asked us to submit suggested locations in our neighborhood for small street repairs. The city will only send the SAR truck to a total of 15 locations in the entire Westwood Neighborhood Council area, so Holmby Westwood will only see a handful of repairs.

If you are aware of any spots in our neighborhood that would be particularly good candidates for this program, please send requests to Dana at hwpoa@aol.com no later than Monday, February 6.  Please only send street repair requests, not sidewalks or curbs.

4.  MORE COYOTE SIGHTINGS

We continue to receive reports of coyotes in the area.  Residents reported seeing coyotes on Thayer at Le Conte, on Dalehurst and on Warner.  Some sightings have been at night and other sightings have been in the morning.

Please take appropriate precautions with your children and pets, as well as keep your trash covered and pet food inside. It is very common for coyotes to come into Holmby Westwood neighborhoods to hunt for food and neighborhood pets.

7.  WILSHIRE BLVD. UPCOMING CLOSURES

From the Westwood-Century City Patch:

Stretches of Wilshire Boulevard near Fairfax Avenue could be closed for 18 consecutive weekends to accommodate work on the Metro Purple Line subway extension, Metro officials said Wednesday.

Pending final approval from the city Board of Public Works, the closures will take place beginning Feb. 10 between 8 p.m. on Fridays through 6 a.m. on Mondays, according to Metro.

Residents and motorists are advised to plan ahead, follow street detours and allow extra time to get through the area.

The scheduled work will be done by contractor Skanska Traylor Shea, which will excavate portions of Wilshire and adjacent sidewalks and replace them with concrete deck panels that will serve as a temporary street surface.

Metro said no decking work will take place during the regular work week and local access for businesses and residents will be maintained.

The 18-weekend schedule will include 10 weekend closures from Spaulding Avenue to Fairfax Avenue, four weekend closures at the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue and four consecutive weekend closures from Fairfax Avenue to Crescent Heights Boulevard.
