1.  GET OUT AND VOTE – TUESDAY, JUNE 7

The Presidential Primary Election is on Tuesday, June 7, 2016.  This is your time to make your mark and vote.

2.  UCLA COMMENCEMENT

UCLA Commencement Ceremonies will take place between June 10th-12th.

There will be two College of Letters & Sciences Commencement ceremonies on Friday, June 10th at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

3.  METRO CONSTRUCTION – WESTWOOD TO CENTURY CITY

Metro contractors are performing field work as part of the planning for Section 3 of the Purple Line Extension. The work will include drilling of soil borings, groundwater monitoring well installation, testing and monitoring to gather further information about the geological conditions.

June 6 through June 12, 2016

  • East side of Comstock Ave., between Santa Monica Blvd. and Eastborne Ave.
  • Santa Monica Blvd. between Comstock Ave. and Benecia Ave.
  • East side of Benecia Ave., between Santa Monica Blvd. to just south of Missouri Ave.
  • Beverly Glen Blvd., from Santa Monica Blvd. to Holman Ave.
  • West side of Century Park West, between Santa Monica Blvd. and Constellation Blvd.
  • North side of Wilkins Ave., between Thayer Ave. and Woodruff Ave.
  • South side of Wilshire Blvd. east of Manning Ave.
  • North side of Wilshire Blvd. east and west of Manning Ave.

Weekends (8:00AM-5:00PM)

  • Middle of Wilshire Blvd. approaching Gayley Ave.

What to Expect

  • All work has received necessary permits and approvals.
  • Access to driveways, homes & businesses will be maintained at all times unless notified in advance.
  • Access for pedestrians will be maintained outside of construction zones.
  • Access for the Fire Department and emergency responders will be maintained.
  • Temporary lane closures will be required; detours with signage will be implemented.
  • Parking restrictions will be implemented in the immediate area of the work zone.
  • Temporary bus stops with relocation signage will be implemented.

4.  FILMING IN WESTWOOD – JUNE 6

Our office has received notice of an upcoming filming on Monday, June 6, 2016.

Location(s): Broxton Ave between Le Conte and Kinross Ave and Weyburn Ave between Gayley Ave and Westwood Blvd.
Date: Monday, June 6th
Time: 7:00 am to 10:00 pm
Description of Scene: The Mayor’s office in partnership with Los Angeles 2024 will be shooting a segment in Westwood Village for the 2024 Olympic Bid. There will be approximately 12 crew on-site. Drone filming over sidewalk and street. There will  will be intermitted traffic and pedestrian control (2 minutes standard) per the FAA guideline for drone use.  A FilmLA monitor will be on site during the entirety of filming.

5.  HWPOA’s JULY 4TH PARADE AND PICNIC

On Monday, July 4th, 2016 HWPOA will be holding our Annual July 4th Parade and Picnic again!  Join your neighbors and friends for a day of fun, food and activities.  Stay tuned more more details!

6.  WESTWOOD LIBRARY – BOOK SALE AND JUNE EVENTS

Don’t miss our Friends of the Library Book Sale this Saturday, June 4th, at 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Pick up some great bargains while helping out your library!

We have a great collection of Coffee Table books, Children Books and DVD’s.  We’ll also be selling bookplates to add to the collection of our Library books.  A great way to increase your personal library while raising money for your public library.

7.  UPCOMING COMMUNITY EVENTS
Dog Film Festival – Dogs are taking over Los Angeles at the city’s first Dog Film Festival this summer. The event will premiere at the Majestic Crest Theater in Westwood on Sunday, June 5, with a kick-off Pooch Party on Saturday, June 4!

The Dog Film Festival is the perfect event to gather with friends, family, dogs (Yes, dogs are allowed in the theater!) and other dog lovers to celebrate and honor our beloved companions.

Westwood Kehilla Banquet Honoring Ted Lieu –  On June 6, 2016, Westwood Kehilla synagogue, located in Westwood at 10523 Santa Monica Boulevard, is holding a dinner honoring Congressman Ted Lieu with its 2016 Community Visionary Award. Congressman Lieu represents the 33rd Congressional District, which encompasses most of Westwood and Holmby Hills.  Besides the Congressman, Consul General of Israel David Siegel, former Congressman Howard Berman, and former Los Angeles City Councilwoman Jan Perry will be participating in the program.

The dinner will be held at Sephardic Temple on Wilshire Boulevard.  A copy of the invitation and other relevant information can be accessed at the link below.

Our housekeeper of many years has two days available for extra work.  Her name is Maria Estevez, and she can be reached at 310-625-9254.  Maria speaks English, drives, and will do anything you require with a smile.  She is totally trustworthy and honest, and is a very hard worker.  She has been with us for almost 10 years, and you can feel free to call me for a reference.
