1.  LT GENERATORS – 15% DISCOUNT

HWPOA has negotiated a 15% discount on all generators sold by LT Generators. Residents have been receiving occasional postcards from LT Generators over the past two years. The company is knowledgeable and has a variety of generators available. They automatically switch from gas to propane if an earthquake triggers an automatic shut off of gas.

2.  METRO PURPLE LINE – FIELD WORK

Metro contractors are performing field work as part of the planning for Section 3 of the Purple Line Extension. The work will include drilling of soil borings, groundwater monitoring well installation, testing and monitoring to gather further information about the geological conditions.

When:

Monday, May 16, 2016 to Friday, May 20, 2016

  • Eastside of Comstock Ave. between Santa Monica Blvd. and Eastborne Ave.
  • Eastside of Benecia Ave. between Santa Monica Blvd. to just South of Missouri Ave.
  • Closure of Southbound curb lane on Century Park West, between Santa Monica Blvd. and Constellation Ave.
  • Northside of Wilkins Ave. between Thayer Ave. and Woodruff Ave.
  • Southside of Ashton Ave. between Westholme Ave. and Fairburn Ave.
  • Median and No. 1 eastbound lane Wilshire Blvd. East of Selby Ave.
  • Bike Lane and No. 3 westbound Santa Monica Blvd. West of Century Park East

What to Expect

  • All work has received necessary permits and approvals.
  • Access to driveways, homes and businesses will be maintained at all times unless notified in advance.
  • Access for pedestrians will be maintained outside of the construction zones.
  • Access for the Fire Department and emergency responders will be maintained.
  • Temporary lane closures will be required; detours with signage will be implemented.
  • Parking restrictions will be implemented in the immediate area of the work zone.
  • Temporary bus stops with relocation signage will be implemented.
  • Construction may result in changes to bus routes or stop locations. Metro will post signs at affected stops to advise of alternative boarding locations. Real-time information available at metro.net/service/advisories or 323.GOMETRO.

3.  RESERVE A METRO PARKING SPOT

Metro’s transit Parking Program is offering transit monthly parking at three new stations on Metro’s Expo Line to Santa Monica scheduled to open May 20, 2016. The reserved monthly and daily parking is located at the Expo/Bundy, Expo/Sepulveda and 17th/SMC Stations.

On May 15 at 10am, preferred monthly parking permits will be available for purchase on a first come, first serve basis. If you are able to obtain a monthly pass at one of these stations, you will have between 4am and 9am to secure your space. After 9am all spaces will become available to all transit riders.

  • 17th/SMC will have 67 spaces, with a total of 13 monthly preferred spaces.
  • Expo/Bundy will have 217 spaces, with a total of 131 preferred spaces.
  • Expo/Sepulveda will have 260 spaces, with a total of 77 preferred spaces.

4.  MOVIE PREMIERE – STREET CLOSURES

On Monday, May 16, 2016, Universal Pictures is planning the “NEIGHBORS 2” premiere to be held at the Regency Village Theatre, located at 961 Broxton Ave, at 7:30 PM.  There will be various sidewalk and street closures around the area of Broxton Avenue between Weyburn Avenue and Le Conte Avenue.

5.  UCLA MARCHING BAND REHEARSAL NOTICE

A group of about 45 UCLA Bruin Marching Band members is preparing for a performance in Taipei, Taiwan at the end of May. In preparation for this, rehearsal will take place at the Intramural Field on May 15th and 22nd, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

For the most part, instruments will only be played until about 8:00 p.m. and we do not anticipate any impact to the surrounding community. As always, you are welcome to come by and watch the Marching Band rehearsal.

6.  PANCAKE BREAKFAST – FIRE STATION #71

Fire Station # 71 will hold is Annual Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser on Sunday, May 22 from 9:00 AM – Noon (at the corner of Sunset and Beverly Glen).  Breakfast is free but donations go for station improvements.  For more information, please CLICK HERE.

7.  UPCOMING COMMUNITY EVENTS

LADWP Customer Service Saturday – May 14 from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM.   Come to any Customer Service Saturday at our Crenshaw, Van Nuys, Watts, and West Los Angeles Customer Service Center (CSC) locations and you can expect assistance from staff who are able to take payments, process service order requests, answer billing questions, and resolve billing issues.

There will also be informational tables and displays with helpful information on LADWP programs and services available to customers, as well as sign-up materials. The Crenshaw location will hold informative and helpful workshops in its on-site auditorium. Brentwood Westwood Symphony Orchestra – Sunday, May 15, 2016 at 3:00 PM at University Synagogue (11960 Sunset Blvd.).  We will be honoring our conductor Maestro Alvin Mills on his final concert, where he will officially pass the baton on to Director-Conductor Diego Miralles.  Special solo guest John Walz will also join us performing the ever popular Saint Saens Cello Concerto along with guest performers David Shostac, Flautist and Bonnie Bowden, Soprano singing “O Mio Babbino Caro”.
