2.  GREATER L.A. HOMELESS COUNT  – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

On Jan. 27th, 2016 the Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count will take place in Westwood Village. Want to join us this year? Visit www.theycountwillyou.org and follow the 3 steps to register as a volunteer for the 2016 Homeless Count!

This year, we will be starting our count later in the evening, in order to capture a truer count compared to last year. Last year, we found many homeless that shelter inside buildings that close at 11 PM or 12 midnight. These homeless individuals have not been accounted for as our count ended at 11 PM last year. This year, we will begin our count training at 10 PM, and volunteers will then begin their counting at 11 PM until 1 AM.

We are kindly asking for as many volunteers as possible, as the Westwood count can be very complicated. We will provide supplies, training, refreshments and guidance.  For High School students who wish to participate, we can provide community service hours for your schools if you bring in your forms.

For additional information, please contact Lisa Chapman at Lchapman@wwnc.org

After the count is finished, in the coming weeks, the Homeless Task Force committee of the Westwood Neighborhood Council, will be meeting to discuss issues, solutions, and techniques in the area of homelessness in Westwood.

Best regards,
Westwood Neighborhood Council

3.  SERVICE ACADEMY DAY

4.  HWPOA WANTS YOUR INPUT

The HWPOA Board of Directors would like your input regarding issues and events in the neighborhood.  If you have suggestions or concerns regarding Holmby Park, Westwood Park, crime, street repairs, etc., please let us know.  We will discuss these issues at our monthly board meetings, which are held on the second Tuesday of each month.  Please contact Dana at hwpoa@aol.com

5.  HOLMBY WESTWOOD IN LA TIMES “PREVIEW” MAGAZINE

Bret Parsons, a Coldwell Banker real estate agent, has arranged for Holmby Westwood to be previewed in the Saturday, Los Angeles Times separate “Previews Magazine” section. Please look for the article in the next few weeks. Our neighborhood will be featured on the back page of Previews, and, please note, the charge for the photographer was a gift of Bret’s to us.

Also, of interest, Coldwell Banker in Beverly Hills is bringing an Historic Preservation Overlay Zone attorney to educate their agents on the Baseline Mansionization Ordinance (BMO), the Historic Preservation Overlay Zone (HPOZ) Ordinance, and issues related to the Interim Control Ordinance (ICO). HWPOA’s Board of Directors has been trying to get agents educated on the city’s new policies so that they will be able to disclose all new facts to their buyers.

6.  LAX LANDSIDE ACCESS MODERNIZATION PROGRAM

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the second busiest airport in the United States. In 2014, 70.7 million passengers passed through LAX, with an estimated 50% of existing passengers traveling to and from LAX by car.

Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) is in the midst of a multi-billion dollar modernization program at LAX. As part of this effort, LAWA is proposing a program to improve the LAX passenger experience, relieve congestion, and enhance LAX’s status as a world-class airport.
