1.  HWPOA BOARD MEETING

On Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 8:00 PM, the HWPOA Board of Directors will hold its monthly meeting at Belmont Village (10475 Wilshire Blvd.). Members of the community are welcome to attend, though space is limited. Please let us know if you plan to attend.  Email Dana at hwpoa@aol.com

2.  CHANGES TO WESTWOOD PARKING METERS

From the LADOT:
Beginning in November, Westwood parking meters will not accept payment for any time beyond the posted time limit.

New Smart System Saves You Time & Frustration

  • Increases parking availability and reduces driver frustration
  • Better utilizes the underused garage parking

No More Meter Feeding

  • Time limits in Westwood Village vary by location and can be 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or 2 hours. Time limits are indicated on overhead signs and on the display screen of each meter.
  • Once you have paid and been parked in a space for the designated time limit (e.g. 15 minutes), the meter will not allow you to purchase any more time.
  • DO NOT insert coins or try to use a credit or debit card once your vehicle has been parked for the posted time limit because the meter will NOT allow you to purchase more time.
  • Violators risk receiving a citation.
  • Drivers who need to stay in Westwood for long periods are encouraged to park in one of the many off-street parking lots and garages in the area.

If you have questions about this change, please email LADOT at expresspark@lacity.org.

3.  MAIL THEFT PREVENTION TIPS

We received the following information from the Office of Congressman Ted Lieu.  The link below is a letter from U.S. Postal Inspection Service with an update about mail theft in our area and some prevention tips:

4.  CAR BREAK-IN ON LINDBROOK

A resident on the 10400 block of Lindbrook reported a theft on early Monday morning. The car was parked on the drive way and the door was unlocked. Nothing was visible from the outside of the car, but someone opened the door and went through all the compartments and stole about $20. Nothing else was taken or broken. The resident also reported that someone was rummaging in their trash bins last week.

The theft was reported to the police and the resident requested extra patrols in the area.

5.  ACS AND ADT SECURITY SURVEY

HWPOA is conducting an informal survey of your recent experiences with the local security companies.  We plan to set up  meetings with representatives from each company so we can discuss the feedback we receive.

If you have had any recent experiences with either ACS or ADT, please let us know about it – what was good, what problems occurred, suggestions, etc.  Please send any comments to Dana at hwpoa@aol.com

6.  PREFERENTIAL PARKING  WARNING – 1 DAY PERMITS

A resident on Comstock was redoing their driveway and had to park two cars on the street for several days. They bought two guest parking permits for each day of the week and put one in each car every morning.

One day during this time, they received two parking violations at $68 each issued at 2:01 am.  The resident went to the parking office on Westwood Boulevard and asked for a hearing to explain they had daily permits for the entire week, which could probably verified in the permit records.  The request was denied, and he was told that they don’t keep records of the guest parking permits.

If you use the one-day permits, please be careful if you use them overnight, as they expire at midnight, and you may get ticketed at that time.

7.  UPCOMING COMMUNITY EVENTS

Bob Baker Marionette Theater – Saturday, November 7th, 11:00 AM at the Westwood Branch Public Library. This free children’s program is sponsored by the Friends of Westwood Library in honor of the Westwood Branch Library’s 10th Anniversary Celebration. Seating is limited, and is first come first served.

The Bob Baker Marionette Theater will perform their roadshow musical revue “Traveling Jamboree,” featuring the extraordinary marionettes that have enchanted Los Angeles audiences for more than 50 years.  Among the delightful characters that may appear in this marionette variety show are: dancing cats, singing chickens, flapper dodos, a juggler, tap dancing frogs, and more. Children sit in a circle so the puppets can come right out in the audience and interact.

Following the show, the Bob Baker puppeteers will hold a Q&A with the children, showing off the beautiful and historic marionettes, explaining how they make their hand-crafted string puppets, and demonstrating how they operate them.  After the program, the children will enjoy complimentary refreshments, hosted by the Friends of Westwood Library.

YOGA CLASS THIS SUNDAY

Dear Neighbors –

I’ll be teaching a Sunday Restorative Yoga class this Sunday, November 8, from 2:00 – 3:30 PM at the Village Church, 343 Church Lane in the Glen.

November and December are stressful times for all. The time change, weather changes and the holiday season contribute to compromised immune systems and exhaustion. It’s a perfect time for Restorative Yoga! All levels are welcome, including those with no previous yoga experience. No charge for first-time students.

To RSVP or for more information, please email or call me.
